Quick recap from Saban's weekly press conference......
Overriding theme was the strong support for John Parker Wilson. If Wilson is beleaguered, it must be outside the walls of the Moore Athletic Facility. The support was so emphatic, there was no reason even to broach the topic of backup quarterback Greg McElroy.
"Offensively, we lost our poise a little bit and made errors in protection we have not been making," Saban said. "The quarterback got too much pressure and was hit too much (with Florida State rushing only three and dropping eight into coverage).
"That makes it a difficult day for any quarterback."
Then specifically on Wilson, Saban said, "John Parker competed his tail off in the game. "I thought he persevered well. We didn't play as well around him as we need to."
Later on JPW, "John Parker has done a lot more good things than bad things. I think we would like him to develop consistency in what he's doing. .....Technically and fundamentally, he's gotten better and better. (Against Florida State), he got too much pressure. He got hit way too much. He showed a lot of mettle and character and competitive spirit in the way that he continued to play. We didn't do a good enough job blocking them."
Injury-wise, the news was not bad. DE Bobby Greenwood's MRI came out negative. He might be out Saturday, Saban said, but that's not a bad tradeoff. Travis McCall and Keith Brown (concussions) may be back for Houston while Darren Mustin (thigh bruise, shoulder) said he should be ready.
On the season, Saban said that there are a lot of positives and that he looks at the cup being half-full rather than half-empty. And he doesn't obsess over wins and loses.
"The way I coach, it's not the results ya'll look for," Saban said. "It's the process to do it right or have the best chance to do it right."
He also addressed fans.
"The expectations here, especially after we won three games, we were going to win the national championship," Saban said. "I don't know how realistic that is. All I know is that we're not playing as good a football as we can play."

Re: Praising JPW

Wilson is an idiot... he doesn't do a check down of his recievers and his mechanics are horrible.
