| Nick Saban: two days off is 10 times more effective than one TUSCALOOSA - Nick Saban has a theory that giving players two consecutive days off is 10 times more effective than giving them just one. No, not two times more effective. "It does 10 times more good," the University of Alabama coach has said. Today might be a good day to test that belief. In the last two weeks, the Crimson Tide has participated in two of the most strenuous, taxing situations one could imagine on a football field. First was a 41-38 win over Arkansas that was decided in the final eight seconds. It was so physical that Heisman Trophy hopeful Darren McFadden left early with a concussion. Then came Saturday's 26-23 overtime loss to Georgia that required an all-out fight back from 10 points down just to force the extra period. Two days off would go a long way to regenerate that resolve, not to mention a few battered bodies. After this week, the schedule offers a deep breath with Houston, then Ole Miss. Not this week, though. There have been signs the Crimson Tide may need mental and physical rest. Of course, there is no rest for the really weary, and the Crimson Tide (3-1) travels this week to Jacksonville, Fla., to play Florida State (2-1) at 4 p.m. This game won't be a pillow fight, either. Two days' rest may be the kind of salve Saban's boys need- al.com
