Saban likes win, but not satisfied with Bama's game

TUSCALOOSA - A last-second win wasn't enough for Nick Saban. Neither was an Alabama fourth-quarter comeback after four seasons without one.

Yes, the coach was pleased with the 41-38 win over previously 16th-ranked Arkansas Saturday night, especially with the resiliency his team showed to fight back after allowing 28 unanswered points.

Yes, he called it one of the better wins of his career.

Yes, it vaulted the Crimson Tide back into the national polls for the first time since the 2005 season. Alabama is 16th in The Associated Press poll and 20th in the USA Today Coaches poll.

But, celebration was not on Saban's mind after receiver Matt Caddell cradled a 4-yard pass from quarterback John Parker Wilson to clinch the victory with eight seconds left.

"We won the game, all right, but we didn't psychologically go toe-to-toe and beat them physically," Saban said. "We'd like to be a team that people don't want to play because of how we physically play the game."

That's the mindset for Alabama, which hosts No. 22 Georgia Saturday at 5:45 p.m. (ESPN) in a game that figures just as challenging.

Saban is a coach unwilling to be satisfied, even with a thrilling win.

Good. He shouldn't be happy, considering how they let Arkansas back into the game after jumping out to that big lead. Very Parcells-like.

He said he was "unsatisified", and that is what will make his team better. He'll make "adjustments" to deal with this. That last drive was the real deal and should be indicative of what you'll see in a Coach Saban team. Play all four quarters and give yourself a chance to win on the last drive.

Anyway, I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day.

I actually wish they hadn't let them back in the game and had run up 60 points on the "little piglets" and Houston Nut.

Roll Tide!!!

Yeah, I get what he was saying bama - I was actually complementing him, you know. I love when coaches win and still nitpick. That's how a team gets better, not letting one big victory get to their heads. Great win for the Tide, but Saban does need to teach them how to finish, and I'm sure that lesson will be atop the syllabus for this week's practices.

That reminds me of how Bear Bryant conducted himself. Buisness all the way. You fought and bled just to win the approval of that man. He was the epitomey of R-E-S-P-E-C-T and everyone gave it to him. Saban will eventually command that kind of prescence on the field of play. It may take a little while but he will make men out of these boys.

Re: Saban likes win, but not satisfied with Bama's game

Problem Saban has is Bama's depth. If you followed the game you could see it. First and third quarters the defense looked pretty good, second and fourth looked tired. Saban is gonna win alot of games but it's still gonna be hard to hold onto some wins in the late fourth quarter this year.
The key is if Shula had been the coach this Sat, then we're 2-1 now. Saban will make a difference for some games this year.

I disagree. If Shula were still Bama's coach we would be 1-2 right now.

Actually if Shula were coach we might be like Notre Dame 0-3. But we're going in the right direction with Saban. One thing that has been discussed is the fact that bunches of people got some real time game experience. That can only help us in the tougher games. It gives Saban a chance to identify who needs more help and to coach them up.

I love the fact he plays the best players. Doesn't hold back a freshman if he's the best.

You can bet all the recruits are watching that too.
