Re: 4 star QB Star Jackson commits to Bama

Star Jackson, a quarterback from Lake Worth, Fla., committed to the University of Alabama on Wednesday.

Jackson had been to the University of West Virginia over the weekend for an official visit, with the Mountaineers feeling somewhat confident of landing the talented playmaker. Alabama had been leading for his services, and he returned to talk with the Crimson Tide staff Monday night.

“Major [Applewhite] was the difference,” Jackson said. “I have such a good relationship with Coach Applewhite that goes deeper than just football. He’s talked to me about a lot of things. We communicated well. I feel comfortable with him as someone who can coach me and teach me.

“I think Coach Applewhite has a great, creative mind. He can devise ways to help me utilize my talents to the fullest.”

Jackson was in Tuscaloosa for camp in July and worked with receivers Melvin Ray and Burton Scott, who have committed to UA.

Jackson, 6-foot-3 and 185-pounds, is a dual-threat quarterback who passed for more than 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns during his junior season.

Jackson chose the Tide over numerous offers, including West Virginia, Florida State, Auburn, Central Florida and South Florida.
