| Two Crimson Tide Players Earn SEC Weekly Honors BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following its season-opening victory over Western Carolina on Saturday night in Bryant-Denny Stadium, two University of Alabama football players earned recognition by the Southeastern Conference as a part of the league’s weekly awards list. Redshirt freshman Terry Grant (Lumberton, Miss.) earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after his notable performance in the Tide’s 52-6 win over Western Carolina. Grant, who missed much of the 2006 season with a shoulder injury, rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns in his first game as a starting running back. Grant scored on the Tide’s first play from scrimmage on Saturday, going for 47 yards on a toss sweep. He scored on a 1-yard run later in the first quarter and added a 21-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Grant also notched two receptions out of the backfield for 13 yards in the victory. The 134-yard effort was the fourth-best rushing total in a season opener in school history and the most since 1994 when Sherman Williams tallied 153 rushing yards. Grant became the first player since Kenneth Darby to run for 100 yards in his first start. Junior center Antoine Caldwell (Montgomery) also earned recognition by the SEC, being mentioned in the “Other Outstanding Performances” section. Caldwell, a 2007 Rimington Award Watch List member, helped the Tide rack up 575 yards of offense and a school-record 35 first downs in the 46-point win over the Catamounts. Alabama rushed for 313 yards in the game, its highest total in two seasons. Two Tide Players Earn SEC Weekly Honors - RollTide.com—The Official Web site of University of Alabama Athletics!
