TUSCALOOSA -- Wallace Gilberry can list the criticisms by memory.
He's aware of what's being said about the front seven of Alabama's new 3-4 defense. Much of it isn't pleasant.

"We're young. We don't have that much experience. We're small," Gilberry said. "I can go on and on and tell you what you want to hear, but basically it's up to the front seven to go out and prove, not just inside our circle but outside our circle, that we're the Alabama defense."

Gilberry, a senior defensive end from Bay Minette, is the only member of Alabama's starting front seven entering 2007 with two years of starting experience.

Surrounding him is a jumbled mixture featuring a rookie (Rolando McClain) at middle linebacker and a transfer (Darren Mustin) and former tight end (Ezekial Knight) beside him.

Meanwhile, the nose tackle didn't learn until Tuesday night he would be starting Saturday's opener against Western Carolina.
