TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama begins the 2007 football season with two of its premier players watching from the sideline.

Receiver Keith Brown and linebacker Prince Hall - both starters - are suspended for the opening game because of a violation of team rules, coach Nick Saban said Monday.

As has been his policy, Saban would not disclose the infractions.

"These particular players have reached a phase where punishment - taking away a game from them - is necessary to do at this time," Saban said. "So, it's a one-game deal and if their behavior is good in the future they won't have any other consequences - that's all I'm saying about it."
