ALABAMA NOTEBOOK: Brown faces plenty of questions

TUSCALOOSA -- Keith Brown climbed into a swarm of television cameras and audio recorders with the coolness of a man who had done it plenty of times.

"Want me to hold something?" he asked with a laugh.

Now an experienced veteran, Brown heads into his senior season at Alabama with more than a few questions being asked of him. Can the wide receiver stay healthy for an entire season? Can flashes of potential turn into All-Southeastern Conference consistency?

And now, can he hold onto his starting job?

Brown has been practicing with the second-string behind sophomore Mike McCoy, who plays the same receiving position in new coordinator Major Applewhite's offense. McCoy caught three passes during Saturday's scrimmage, while Brown didn't catch one. In fact, Brown said he only had two balls thrown in his direction.

You can bet that Applewhite's offense has room for Mr.Brown. Alabama is being smart giving some reps to other players it never hurts to have someone else ready to go stretch the field.

That is one thing Saban will not allow is a shortage of offensive weapons. Brown will get his reps.

Saban employees the team concept rather than the superstar. So if one gets hurt he can put another one in just like him.
