Prothro's career at Bama likely finished

Alabama wide receiver Tyrone Prothro has been placed on medical scholarship, almost certainly ending his college career nearly two years after breaking his leg, coach Nick Saban said Thursday.

Prothro's career at Bama likely finished

It appears that Tyrone Prothro's football career is over. The star Alabama receiver who sustained a grisly compound fracture of his left leg two years ago, is no longer on football scholarship, Tide coach Nick Saban said Thursday. Prothro was one of four players announced by Saban as being removed from football scholarships. "We do have a plan to try to further continue (Prothro's) rehabilitation and we're hopeful that he can come back and play football someday," Saban said. "But our medical staff is 99.9 percent sure this is a long term issue we're dealing with and it would be unusual for a guy to come back. But you can appeal (to the NCAA) down the road if a guy can come back." -- Huntsville Times

Thanks Mike Shula..... I really didn't want to see the best wide reciever in Alabama history play on Sundays [right]. Especially opposite Steve Smith on the Carolina Panthers. Nah that just would have been unfair.

Tyrone Prothro will always be remembered for the catch. But I will remember him as the little man with the heart of a Lion. Good luck Tyrone you will be missed.

There is no way anyone can place blame on Mike Shula for Protro's injury. His leg was broken in the process of having a career game, unfotunately the game turned out to be a career ender. Prothro 's leg was broken on a routine play that just went bad, there was no intent or or malice from the defender it just happened. I hate to know he will not play again but Bama fans will always have the spectacular catch to replay again and again.

As a coach I know when the game is well in hand. I put in my second string to get them some game time experience when we have achieved a sizeable lead and have the time factor on our side. Tyrone Prothro had "NO" buisness even being in the game at that point. So yes you can lay the blame at Mike Shula's feet he didn't understand how to coach and manage a time clock. It is becomes a personal responsibility when a coach leaves his star players out there to get hurt under those conditions.
