Hey Bama fans. I was checking out this kid Andre Smith, a guard from Birmingham who is an incoming freshman with the Crimson Tide. He's 6-4, 325 pounds, runs a 5.2 40 and was recently named the top offensive line recruit by Rivals.com. So has anyone heard anything about this kid coming out of spring drills? How's his technique? Any chance he sees time this season?

Andrea didn't practice in the spring he graduates high school in May but he will make it for the fall so for right now there isn't much word on him. I know he did dominate the kids on the d line in that army all star game!

Hi, tidejunky, and welcome to GoteamsGo! Thanks for clearing that up for me - I should've realized that the wouldn't be coming until fall. You think he's going to play right away, or will the Tide most likely go with a more veteran set of guards?

I think that if this guy is as good as advertised that he may get a shot to play his freshman year. I have always thought that if a player is good enough he should get playing time.

But then again, they may have some decent lineman already in place...

I was at the A-Day game 2 weeks ago and the first team O-line actually looked respectable. I think Andre will push for playing time and possibly see a lot of action substituting in the early part of the season and possibly lock down a starting spot as he gets more familiar with the team and the offense towards the end of the year. Remember Bama has been extremely limitied in depth at the O-line postition for some time now. I hope Coach Rader takes Coach Kines example and rotates several players on that line to help build depth at the O-line position. Watch out for Bama in 07 they will be tough, I also think that will be FL States year as well. You heard it hear first just remember that!

You think FSU is going to be tough this year? That may not be a bad call; they are definitely due!

Actually Fl State will loose atleast 1 game maybe 2 this year. I believe their year will be 07 and they and Bama could be on a collision course that year.

There is no doubt about that. After grooming the young talent for one more year, both teams will have a great chance at making big things happen.
