Alabama DB Ramzee Robinson "Mr. Irrelevant 2007"

This is one Bama fan who knows that Ramzee Robinson will be an Impact player for Detriot. He has the speed to cover the field from side to side and is a hard hitting DB. I hope he does not let the fact that he was the last overall pick get him down. I think he will use this as inspiration to show his talents in the NFL.

Way to go Ramzee make the Crimson Tide and the SEC Proud.

Here's some more info on Mr. Irrelevant for those unfamiliar with the award.

Quote:
Mr. Irrelevant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Mr. Irrelevant" is the tongue-in-cheek moniker bestowed each year upon the last pick of the annual National Football League draft. While the origin of the nickname itself is unknown, the term's meaning is rather obvious: the last player selected in the draft is the one most likely to be cut from the team first, thus making him irrelevant.

The term came into some prominence in 1976, when former NFL receiver Paul Salata founded "Irrelevant Week" in Newport Beach, California. During the summer after the NFL draft, the current Mr. Irrelevant and his family are invited to spend a weekend in Newport, where they are treated to, among other things, a roast giving "advice" to the new draftee and a ceremony awarding him the aptly-named Lowsman Trophy.

Despite the nickname, several players who have been presented with this dubious honor have made the team that drafted them and contributed on the field. Bill Kenney, who won the Mr. Irrelevant award under special circumstances in 1978 (see below), was a Pro Bowl selection in 1983. Special teamer Marty Moore became the first Mr. Irrelevant to play in a Super Bowl when he did so with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. Jim Finn is now the starting fullback for the New York Giants.

The whole Mr. Irrelevant thing isn't a knock. It actually comes with a free vacation and stuff. Just sort of a fun little thing they do.

And the last draft pick can go on to big things. Look at Bill Kenney, who went on to be a Pro Bowler, and Giants FB Jim Finn, a starter these days.

Former Tider Gets Lucky

By BamaMag.com

Posted Jun 13, 2007

Former Alabama defensive Ramzee Robinson will soon find out what it's like being Paris Hilton, when he is celebrated for no real reason at all in California next week.

Former University of Alabama defensive back Ramzee Robinson has been named “Mr. Irrelevant” by The Commodores Club of the Newport Beach (Calif.) Chamber of Commerce.
The 32nd Annual Lowsman Trophy is presented to the last player taken in the National Football League draft. The Huntsville native was the 255th selection in the 207 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, thus earning him this year’s award.
Started by community philanthropist Paul Salata, “Irrelevant Week” was created to honor the underdog. With the motto of “doing something nice for someone for no reason at all”, “Irrelevant Week” spotlights the “last pick” in the NFL draft with a week of festivities in his honor.
Robinson will arrive in Newport Beach on Monday, June 18 for an Arrival Party and Press Conference at the Newport Dunes Resort. On Tuesday, June 19, “Mr Irrelevant” will be a special guest at Disneyland. On Wednesday, June 20, Robinson will be presented the 32nd Annual Lowsman Trophy at the All-Star Lowsman Banquet at the Newport Beach Marriott. For more information on Irrelevant Week XXXII please visit the website at WELCOME TO IRRELEVANT WEEK. All proceeds from this event will benefit the local U.S. Military families in Newport Beach, Calif.
