Tide Prepares For first Scimmage

Crimson Tide Football Prepares for First Scrimmage Release: 04/05/2007

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide football team was in helmets and shoulder pads on Thursday for a two-hour practice at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility. It was the last practice before the team scrimmages for the first time Friday afternoon.
The team has been working on its new offensive and defensive systems and will be able to get a good look of where they stand halfway through spring drills on Friday as they go head-to-head.
“We have a lot of stuff in,” said junior quarterback John Parker Wilson. “We are just going to go out there and work on those plays and try to get as good as we can with everything we have in so far.”
Wilson said the scrimmage is important not only for the coaches but also for the players as they try to see what they are doing well and what they still need to work on after the first seven practices.
“I think it is going to be fun,” said Wilson. “It will be like walking baby steps where the coaches let us go and see what we can do. It is important for us to know where we stand so far. When we go against the defense tomorrow it is going to be faster.”
Temperatures were cooler for the Tide in today’s practice as they dropped to around 60 degrees in Tuscaloosa. The weather is expected to remain in the 50’s and low 60’s as Alabama passes the halfway point of the allotted number of practices on Friday.
Friday’s scrimmage will be the final practice in the second week of spring drills. All practices and scrimmages are closed to the public. The following two weeks will feature six more practices, including a second scrimmage next weekend. The spring season will be capped off with the Golden Flake A-Day on April 21, at 1 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Crimson Tide Holds First Football Scrimmage of Spring Practice Release: 04/06/2007

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football team worked through its first scrimmage under new head coach Nick Saban Friday afternoon at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Friday’s scrimmage started with the Crimson Tide in game-like conditions with the first offense facing the second defense followed by the second offense going against the first defense. From there, the team went to a situational scrimmage, focusing on third-and-long situations, the two-minute drill and red zone offense. The team also worked on special teams, focusing on both punts and kickoffs.

I am pleased with the progress we have made since we started, are we where we would like to be probably not but I am pleased with the progress we have made to this point,” Saban said. “There were some good things on both sides of the ball we just have to continue to build and show some more consistency. We are really trying to develop timing with the people right now and get everyone used to doing what we need to do.”

Quarterback John Parker Wilson threw for 223 yards and a touchdown and receiver Matt Caddell caught four passes for 80 yards. The running game was highlighted by Glen Coffee’s 81 yards on 15 carries for one touchdown. Defensively, defensive lineman Brian Motley had 11 tackles, including three for losses. Re: Tide Prepares For first Scimmage

It would be nice if they had actual video for the general public to watch.
