Former Player Herb Hannah Dies

Former Ala. Football Player Herb Hannah Dies Last Edited: Friday, 30 Mar 2007, 4:37 PM CDTCreated: Friday, 30 Mar 2007, 4:37 PM CDT ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Former Alabama football player Herb
Hannah, who had three sons play for the Crimson Tide, has died. He
was 85.
Hannah, who died at his home on Wednesday, played for the Tide
from 1948-50 and spent a season at tackle for the New York Giants
before retiring to coach and teach in Canton and Cedartown, Ga.
He eventually bought the Alabama territory of a poultry company
where he worked. Hannah founded the Hannah Supply Co. in 1961,
selling the company to his employees when he retired in the 1980s.
Hannah's sons Charles, David and John also played for the Tide.
John Hannah, an offensive lineman, was inducted into the Pro
Football Hall of Fame in 1991. He was introduced by his father at
the induction ceremony, and in his speech credited his parents,
Herb and Geneva, for his success.
"They always gave it everything they had and a little more,"
John Hannah said. "They never failed to show us their love."
Geneva Hannah died Sept. 20, 2005.
