Week Two Of Spring Drills

Tide Opens Week Two of Spring Drills Release: 04/03/2007

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama football team practiced for approximately two hours under muggy conditions in the first of three scheduled workouts in the second week of spring practice on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility.
“Tempo is a hard characteristic that we need to really work on and develop, so that we can maintain intensity,” said UA head coach Nick Saban. “A lot of that has to do with the consistency part I talked about on Saturday. With consistency in performance, one of the main things you have to do is to be able maintain your sense of urgency and maintain your intensity. Half of the plays we correct have to do with mental errors, not physical ones, so that’s something we are continuing to work on.”
Temperatures were around 80 degrees for most of the workout, with light winds throughout the day. Practice began at 3:30 p.m.
Saban announced that two offensive players from last season, Taylor Pharr, an offensive lineman, and Ali Sharrief, who played at the running back position, got a look on the defensive unit on Tuesday.
“These are not position changes, these are experiments,” Saban said. “We took two guys, Taylor Pharr and Ali Sharrief, and looked at them on defense. We will probably look at them on defense for a couple of days until we get a picture or an idea of whether they might be able to help us, relative to whether their role being more significant on that side of the ball than where it is. Both of these guys are being looked at because they were impressive in what they were doing.”
The Crimson Tide is set to work out on Thursday, April 5, with the first scrimmage set for Friday, April 6. All practices and the team’s scrimmage remain closed to the general public.

Jamar Taylor #39 is a real beast he benches 415 and runs a 4'5 40 at 5'10 200lbs. This guy reminds me of Derrick Thomas. I hope he reminds other QB's of that great Alabama player too.

Re: Week Two Of Spring Drills

Guess who was out there practising today?

TYRONE PROTHO

Just a few days after his surgery to remove scar tissue the kid is out there running routes. Sure he was wearing a black jeresy indicating injury but the guy was out there. This is another sign to take heart Alabama fans Nick is getting ready to unleash weapon X on them. Cornerbacks and safetys alike will have something else to think about when Tyrone steps out onto the playing field. In the immortal words of a certain well known sports caster "WOAH NELLIE!!!"

I can see JPW coming up really strong this year. Having a full year of experience under his belt will help him out (especially in the SEC). I think he may suprise some LSU and auburn fans this year. :P

I have mentioned his return several times on this forum but everyone said he was finished. Hell you can recover from almost anything after 2 years of recovery/rehab.

Saban called him an outstanding talent in practice yesterday.

Re: Week Two Of Spring Drills

The kid who transfered from Boston College is a 6'8 QB and he is going to get a look on Good Friday. JPW better bring his A game.

His arm strenght isn't bad he just needs some reps after all the kid is a true freshman. Boston College thought he would ride the pine. Saban told him if he came to Alabama he would get a shot at the starting job.

He never attended a practice or class, so according to the NCAA Rules the guy is eligible to play starting now.
