Re: Helpful site for keeping up with recruiting

Scout.com is one of the best resources for college recruiting, if not the best.

According to their rankings, as of now, Alabama is tied for the 28th best recruiting class. No top 100 recruits or 5-star ones but they do have four 4-star recruits committed.

Re: Helpful site for keeping up with recruiting

Won't really know until signing day how Saban impacts this recruiting class. As we all know, some guys will change their minds between now & then. Some will come down to the last minute.

And then we don't really know how well the class did until a few years down the road. Every recruiting class will have sleepers and every recruiting class will have the guys that don't meet expectations.

Keep this in mind Saban has an eye for talent. How many so called 5 star blue chippers turn out to be duds at the next level? I trust Saban and his coaching staff when it comes to putting together a team.

Rivals.com has the Tide at 19th best in the nation. Saban will make a difference with a few turnarounds this year but will have huge impact next year. He has 5 or 6 top recruits interested that weren't interested before he came. The best thing is he'll make the most out of the talent we have already! my guess is 10-2 first season. Top ten finish.

Don't believe the hype they put on 5 star blue chip players. You have to look at overall needs of your team and the scheme they run. Coaching is 75% of winning the players just have to execute the plays as they are called.

At least the "Run Darby up the middle" play is history. That was like watching the 100th rerun of a bad sitcom.

I think the players are more than 25 percent of winning...

In my opinion the percentages would look more like this...50% coaching, by coaching I am not talking about just calling plays on game day. I am talking about off season and summer workouts,,strenth and conditioning both physically and mentaly, all of the really great players have mental toughness. the players are also 50% of the eqasion, the have to develop that mental toughness and the confidence to say "I will not quit or be beaten". The players have to give 110% in all phases of learning the game of football such as studying film in preperation for upcomming games but also learn techniques that are shown on film by oter teams players, mental and physical preparations consistantly and with a positive attitude and lastly take what their coaches teach in practice and be willing to work and work and work somemore until the techniques for their positions are honed and strong and never feel that they know everything about their position. Striving for constant improvrment is a a must from every player to build a winning team. Lastly remember that this is a team sport, you can put a five star player in every position and they will not win if they do not work together.

Bama has a large extreamly experienced staff, there shoul be plenty of small group and even some one on one teaching. If the players can put Bama's past where in belongs in the past The Crimson Tide will be back among the nations elite within 3 years, by elite I mean when sports analysts talk about college football Alabama will be in the top three mentioned.

As Bear Bryant once said it is 90% Preparation and 10% Pespiration that is the keys to winning. In this day and age that still holds true.

"You are special in the fact that Alabama recruited you to represent them"
Bear Bryant.
"There are no superstars on my teams"
Bear Bryant
"Champions are made not born"
Bear Bryant
"Years from now they will only remember you if you win today"
Bear Bryant

If Saban follows this template he will bring us #13 in 2007

I know that Bear Bryant was one hell of a coach. He instilled pride and dicipline in his players. He will always be a legendary coach but I personally think that it is time to let Bear Bryant rest in peace.

I really think that it is time to move on. It is time for all of us true Bama fans to stop comparing every coach and every coaching decision to what Bear would have done. Football has gone through major changes over the past 24 years. The wishbone offence is a thing of the past, especially in the SEC. Three yards per play to control the clock and put the game on your defense to win just won't work anymore, yes a great defence is essential to win games but you had better be able to score points, alot of them and be able to strike quickly.

If you want to win consistantly it is time to adapt and evolve offences.
Examples: Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier, Houston Nutt and Les Miles and these are just SEC coaches.

Saban has assembled an all star coaching staff and will expect perfection from the coaches and players and I for one will support him 100% as long as he keeps the Crimson Tide football moving toward and eventually expecting national championships.

Instilling discipline never goes out of style. Playing with pride and playing together as a team and not as a group of individuals is an eternal truth. The game changes but certain foundations do not. Paul "Bear" Bryant represented what was best about football. He took boys and made them into men. He set a higher standard for coaches to follow. That is why I used the template analogy. Saban is at unique spot in history and depending on his choices he could become the next "Great Coach" at Alabama. Bear laid the foundation for Saban to build on and that is why Alabama football will continue to grow rich in tradition. You and I both know in 20 years or so there will only be a handful of us who ever met the Bear or heard his sermons on football. So let's hope Saban has wonderful success it is what Bear would have wanted.
