Saban went to the weight room and saw all the tv's and called the maintenance crew. The TV's were all gone by 4a.m. the next morning. Reportedly Saban said "it's all business in here from now on".

Not sure how to react to this. I mean, it's great and all that he had them taken out. But, my goodness, those TV's should've never been there in the first place! Was that Shula's doing or does it predate even him?

From what I understand Shula was very light on the players about fitness. It was optional that they work out. He (Shula) felt they would workout on their own and TV's would keep them in the gym. Saban will make them go to the gym and have staff training them. It won't be optional. Saban is a stickler for conditioning.

Good for him. Conditioning is one of the biggest factors in a team's performance, especially late in the game. It really needs to be stressed, because the team that's freshest in the fourth quarter wins the game. Plus you want those guys in the trenches to be good and powerful.

It's no wonder Shula got fired. That was just stupid. Any coach would make sure his team was fit enough to play the game. That should be the first thing a coach stresses.

Bear Bryant never had TV's and he was a tyrant on conditioning. He would make his teams run an extra 12 laps more than any other team. That way when the 4th quarter came Alabama was ready to go while the other teams tounges were hanging out.
