The Tide is Rising

Posted: Roll Tide Forever "Alabama Recriuting, The Ladder is Complete" Tues. Jan 16, 2007 11:25 a.m. on RollTideBama.com

It all seems to be falling into place. February 1, 2002 will be considered a date of infamy for any loyalist of Crimson Tide Football. Much by her own hand, Alabama dug a hole half way to hell. That Friday was the date the NCAA officially released its list of penalties involving the Crimson Tide football program. Exactly five years ago two weeks from today, Alabama was placed on the worst probation since the likes of SMU. A cats whisker away from the death penalty, cast aside, to be forever forgotten as a “has been” program.

Any program since has not reached the pinnacle from which Alabama fell. The record books speak for themselves, we as Alabama fans can rattle those numbers off in our sleep. You know exactly which ones I speak. Great we say, quite impressive…now what?

It all seems to be falling into place. This weekend the University of Alabama completed assembly of a Coaching Staff. And whoa Nelly! what a staff it is; seven of Bama’s nine new coaches have previously held head coordinator status at either the collegiate or NFL level. Add it all up and it comes out to roughly 138 years of coaching experience now at the Universities disposal. Stacked you ask? Lets just say Dolly would be proud. The rails of the ladder are complete. Now, on to the rungs we go.

By some weird and wonderful turn of events, the coaching staff fell into place right as the Tides first big recruiting weekend of the year was kicking off. A plan coming together so efficiently Col. Hannibal himself would light up a cigar. Mind you this is no coincidence, this is the culmination of something not seen in Bama football since…well not since I can easily remember. It is the difference between focused and passionate leadership versus a deer hopelessly caught in the headlights.

In consideration, the signing of Kerry Murphy was a nice cherry on top of all the good news coming out of the Capstone lately. Kerry is a much-needed addition and Alabama’s fourth defensive Tackle verbal so far this recruiting season. If Murphy can continue to stay on track with qualifying, look for his services to be put to use very early in his career.

Another prospect we have not discussed on the Bama boards is Lee Chambers. Lee, a 6 foot 193 pound athlete with 4.4 speed finished his high school season with over 1300 yards and 19 touchdowns. He verballed to Mississippi State back in June of last year and has since made visits to Southern Miss. He also visited Miami, Alabama and South Carolina back in January. This weekend Lee visited the Capstone once again. He was amazed with the changes. He said the atmosphere and excitement was a night and day difference with the new staff. Alabama has Lee reconsidering his verbal to Mississippi State it would seem.

Robert Marve is high on Saban’s list of must have recruits. Robert was hosted by John Parker Wilson and brought his parents along for the trip. This was Robert's first meeting with Coach Saban and judging from his comments it went very well. Robert is still Alabama committed and should stay that way. In fact, Robert was quoted as saying, “After this week I feel a lot stronger about my commitment to Alabama, I like the new staff and was impressed with their plan for the future. Also, my parents like it so that meant a lot to me. I'm still committed."

Andre Smith hosted Allen Bailey and the two seemed to hit it off very good. At the very least, Allen enjoyed his visit. What his parents think is very important to him above anything else, so expect him to take all of his officials and sit down with his family to discuss it before a decision comes.

Chris Lett reaffirmed his commitment to the Tide saying the trip could not have been better. He is very impressed and excited with the changes being made at Alabama. Along with Lett, O-Line recruit Patrick Crump made clear where he plans to be the next five years and that is with the Tide. He got to sit down with Coach Pendry and the two discussed his role and what he needed to do to get ready for the next step. Alex Watkins sat down with Co-Coordinator Kevin Steele and was very excited to meet Coach Saban. He commented on how Coach Saban coached Jason Taylor and that Coach Saban said he wanted to use Alex in much the same way.

Although Alfred Mcollugh will visit Ol miss, he says it’s because he gave them his word he would. He said he was committed to the Tide under the old staff, but with the new coaches in place, he is defiantly going to Alabama. In contrast to Alfred; Jennings Hester has since canceled his visits to other schools and now has no desire to even entertain any more recruiting trips. Focusing instead on getting ready to learn from this new coaching staff.

With these events, Alabama it seems has completed that so desperately needed ladder. The one that she can use to one-step at a time climb out of that hellhole. Will she do it? Can she do it? Time will tell, but I know of at least one Bama fan that will be pulling for her every step of the way.

Living in Louisiana? Bless your heart! I can imagine what smack you must be tolerating there, Q. I have a friend who attends LSU and he told me that the players HATED Saban and said they would transfer if he ever came back (in that couple of days before he signed with the Tide, there were some rumors going around that LSU might go after him again) I'd like to know if there is any truth to that, so fill me in if you've heard anything about his popularity with the players while he was coaching at LSU.

Smile Re: The Tide is Rising

Actually, the players at LSU always liked playing for him. They respected him and played hard for him. Now, on the other hand, some of his assistant coaches used to get irritated at him because he tends to be a very hands on, dictating type and that bothered some of his coaches. His coaches would be out on recruiting trips and he would constantly call their cell phones wanting to know where they were, what they were doing etc... But then again, that may be why he is so good at recruiting. And as far as the hands on dictating style, if it's my back side on the line, and my responsibility to win games, I think I'd be pretty dictative and demanding also. Its rumored that is why Jimbo didn't come to Alabama. But I know this, we have ONE HELL OF A COACH now at Bama. He's a great recruiter, a great defensive mind, and he knows how to win, and WILL NOT tolerate losing. Rome wasn't built in a day so I hope we give him a pretty long leash and give him the time to get things turned around. In my mind, we now have one of the three best coaches in college footbal. Pete Carrol and dare I say Tommy Tubberville being the other two. I despise Auburn but I gotta give ther coach credit. He has really proven his ability and he's a good SEC style coach. I'm very proud to have Saban. HAPPY RECRUITING, GOD LOVE ALABAMA, and ROLL TIDE!!

Sports hero: A.J. Hawk
In my iPod: Lynyrd Skynyrd, George Strait, Metallica
Favorite flick: “Braveheart”
If I wasn’t going to Alabama, I’d go to … Ole Miss
Ten years from now, I’ll be … Married and completing medical school to be a doctor

Re: The Tide is Rising

Saban isn't done raiding cajun country or the NFL apparently rumblings... just a rumor Steve Mariucci might come to Alabama until the job in big D opens up when Parcells leaves.

Re: The Tide is Rising

Fellow Tide fans, Simple Simon seems to have his panties in a wad. (quote) "ok ok ok..........this thread (Nick Saban Sucks) is here for the sole purpose of my bashing of Nickoli Saban.......the evil puppy beating coach of Bama."

I started this thread so that optomistic Bama fans could do a little crowing. Come join us in the celebration of a team that is going to rise to the top once again! However, that's not to say you aren't allowed to expres your opinion of our adversaries.

Now, Stoney u need 2 remember that no good ol'sorry coach of ours has been called a liar, a coward and a quitter. At this point, I don't think he'd be bothered by adding thief to that list.
