Re: Alabama Recruiting News Tampa Plant quarterback Robert Marve took his family father Eugene, mother Julie and sister Rebecca with him to see Alabama’s campus in Tuscaloosa. “I think everybody felt really good about it,” Marve said. “I got a really good feeling [from recently hired coach Nick Saban] and all the players and the staff. Overall, I’d have to say it was a great visit.” Marve still plans to visit Miami this weekend and Hawaii the next weekend. Another visit to an undisclosed school might occur after the trip to Hawaii.

Re: Alabama Recruiting News Wednesday, January 17, 2007 Nick Saban has spent the last two days traveling across south Alabama in search of prospects for his first football recruiting class at the University of Alabama. Saban spent a portion of Tuesday night at UMS-Wright watching the Bulldogs and star wide receiver recruit Brandon Gibson face the Daphne Trojans in basketball. His work on Monday, which included visits with most of the Mobile area's top seniors, may already be having an impact on the Tide as well as rival Auburn. Brewton offensive lineman Jared Cooper publicly revealed his commitment to Auburn Monday after spending the weekend on an official visit to the campus. But after a Monday evening visit from Saban, the W.S. Neal High standout is now mulling an official visit to Tuscaloosa. A 6-foot-4, 287-pound guard, Cooper was long assumed to be a private commitment to Auburn and went public this week after Auburn's big recruiting weekend. But Cooper, who is a lifelong Tide fan with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, now says he is considering both programs. "Coach Saban offered me a scholarship to play for Alabama," Cooper told Rivals.com. "It definitely gives me another serious option to consider. Right now, I am still an Auburn commitment, and I don't have a timetable or anything like that to decide." For now, Auburn is offering Cooper a scholarship as a "grayshirt," meaning he wouldn't join the team until January 2008 and would not count against this year's scholarship total. If Alabama offered a scholarship for this year, Cooper would be the first offensive lineman to have such an offer from the Tide. In addition to visiting UMS-Wright, Saban spent part of Tuesday at other high schools, including Davidson and McGill-Toolen. Davidson is the home of safety Michael McNeil, while blue-chip recruits Sidell Corley and Phelon Jones attend McGill.

Re: Alabama Recruiting News Wednesday, 17 January 2007 New Alabama head football coach Nick Saban and his defensive line coach Ron Middleton were at Athens High School on Monday to visit commitment Alfred McCullough and to talk to coach Allen Creasy about other possible prospects. With national signing day only three weeks away, Saban is hot on the recruiting trail during the week and hosting visitors in Tuscaloosa on the weekend. Creasy said Monday’s visit to AHS was not Saban’s first time at the school. “He’s actually been by before while he was recruiting at LSU,” he said. “He and the new defensive line coach Ron Middleton came to see Alfred yesterday (Monday).” Creasy said he has always been impressed with Saban’s recruiting skills. “He does a great job in the recruiting process,” he said. “He’s very personable and is just very good at dealing with people. When he talks, you can just tell that he has purpose and he always gets his point across. You can just tell that he’s in charge.” While visiting with McCullough, Saban also talked to Creasy about other possible additions to the Alabama football team. “What they’re doing is entirely re-opening the recruiting process,” Creasy said. “They’re going to honor previous commitments, but they’re also going to re-evaluate other prospects. Some other guys may get a chance. We talked to them about Karlos Jones, Jacquez Pride and Rob Ezell. It’s an exciting time in Alabama football.” McCullough, who has been committed to Alabama since last summer and just got back from his official visit to Tuscaloosa, got an in-home visit from the new Bama coaches. “They came by my house and stayed for about an hour,” said McCullough. “Coach Saban seems like a pretty good guy. I’ve heard that he’s very intense. I like that.” With Middleton accompanying Saban on the trip, McCullough, a defensive lineman, got another opportunity to talk to his future position coach. “We had already talked a lot when I went down for my visit,” McCullough said. “He’s a real down-to-earth guy. I got to see his Super Bowl ring.” While McCullough is set to be in Tuscaloosa this fall, some other Golden Eagles are waiting for their opportunity. Jones, who is also a big recruit and a fellow defensive lineman, is waiting on an offer from the Crimson Tide. “Coach Saban said he was real interested and got some tape,” Jones said. “I’ve followed him since he was at LSU. I liked the way they played.” Jones has heard from several other schools. He visited Memphis during the season but admits Tuscaloosa is where he would like to end up.

Re: Alabama Recruiting News Jan 17, 2007 Coach Nick Saban turning heads Defensive end Kourtnei Brown, from Charlotte-Victory Christian, (N.C.), gave his verbal commitment to the Crimson Tide after receiving a scholarship offer for his outstanding performance in summer camp. The firing of Mike Shula led to Brown re-opening his recruitment. Brown was in Tuscaloosa for his official visit last weekend. "Alabama seems to have a good staff--a top staff," said Kourtnei Brown from Charlotte, (N.C.). "Coach Saban went and got who he wanted. He wants to make the program better and successful. I like what they have done, and I am looking forward to being coached by them." Alabama was Brown's only scholarship offer before he gave his commitment. His senior season performance catapulted his stock and garnered offers from several elite programs including Clemson, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. The 6-5, 225-pound speed rush defensive end will visit Clemson this weekend, but said following his visit to the Capstone, "My commitment to Alabama is a solid commitment. It's a firm commitment. I am going to Alabama."

Re: Alabama Recruiting News Friday, January 19, 2007 Alabama's last best chance to sway Mobile's Sidell Corley away from Florida will come this weekend when Corley and UMS-Wright receiver Brandon Gibson headline a batch of prospects visiting the Crimson Tide. Corley, the 6-4, 250-pound defensive end out of McGill-Toolen who ranks No. 2 on the Press-Register's Elite 18 list, is using the visit to work on relationships with the new Nick Saban coaching staff. "This is a staff and scheme visit," said Sidell Corley Sr., the player's father. "We've been up there about five times already, so we know Alabama has great facilities. "He wants to get to know the coaching staff there. He probably knows as much about Saban as he does Bear Bryant, which isn't much." Saban visited the Corleys in person on Tuesday, kicking off a wild week for the family. Corley, No. 16 on the Press-Register's Super Southeast 120, committed to Florida last spring, but he's still contemplating offers from Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma and Tennessee in addition to the Gators.
