Re: Alabama Recruiting News Info on recruit visits this weekend Friday, February 02, 2007 By THOMAS MURPHY Sports Reporter The highest-rated players who are on the scheduled visit list are defensive tackle Rolando Melancon of Lutcher, La., and receiver Roderick Davis of Memphis (Tenn.) Wooddale. But Davis' visit might be impacted by winter weather in west Tennessee. Others on the tentative visit list are a pair of linebackers -- Earl Patin from Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab and Antonio White from Hollandale (Miss.) Simmons -- receivers Markish Jones of Spartanburg (S.C.) Broome and Jeremy Word of Nettleton, Miss., and defensive tackle Jeremy Elder of College Park, Ga.

Re: Alabama Recruiting News UMS-Wright receiver Brandon Gibson, who is considered a strong Alabama lean, made a surprise trip to the Capstone for an unofficial visit. The No. 43 player on the Press-Register's Super Southeast 120, Gibson (6-2, 190) drove up with a friend to watch the Alabama basketball team play South Carolina and talk a little more with Saban and area recruiter Lance Thompson. Gibson is scheduled to make his announcement at an 11 a.m. press conference at the school on National Signing Day on Wednesday, but he said he'll inform the coaching staffs of his finalists -- Alabama, Auburn and South Carolina -- today. "I don't want them to find out when everyone else does," Gibson told BamaOnLine.com. "It needs to be more personal because they spent so much time recruiting me." Meanwhile, Baker safety Ken Dailey drove back from his official visit still hoping to pull down an Alabama offer. The 6-2, 191-pounder, who has been injured most of the past two seasons, expects to hear on Tuesday whether Alabama will extend an offer, and if it'll be a counter for next fall or a grayshirt offer. Southern Miss is also recruiting Dailey. "I'll wait and see what he tells me before making a final decision," Dailey told TiderInsider.com. "It's Alabama or Southern Miss, but I really want to be at Alabama." The Crimson Tide had hoped to sway Rolando Melancon, a 6-2, 260-pounder from Lutcher, La., away from his commitment to Tennessee on his visit, but several recruiting services reported that Melancon intends to stick with his original non-binding pledge. Dailey is not the only player hoping to get a Tide offer. Receiver Jeremy Word, a 6-0, 190-pounder out of Nettleton, Miss., is still awaiting a firm offer after his weekend at the Capstone. Word played just one season of football, but has excellent speed and athleticism.

Re: Alabama Recruiting News Monday, February 05, 2007 DOUG SEGREST News staff writer The Super Bowl wasn't the only thing going on in Miami this weekend. Kerry Murphy, Hoover High School's highly recruited defensive line prospect, took an official visit to the University of Miami, and left adding more drama to the recruiting season. He came home Sunday saying the Hurricanes hold a slight advantage over Alabama in the competition for his signature on Wednesday's signing day. Murphy is rated the No.1 prospect in the state, according to The Birmingham News' preseason Super Seniors list. The defensive tackle committed to the Crimson Tide during an official visit on Jan. 14. Following his commitment, Murphy told The News that the Hurricanes still had an opportunity to win him over on his official visit. On Sunday, Murphy said he liked the similarities between Miami's defensive strategies and those used at Hoover, including terminology and formations. Miami's proximity to the winter training complexes of NFL players also made a positive impression, Murphy said, because the pros can offer advice to Hurricanes as they work toward football's biggest stage. New Miami coach Randy Shannon's recruiting pitch was also refreshing, Murphy added. Shannon kept the pressure low and wasn't as "buddy-buddy" as some of the other schools recruiting him. Murphy said he was going to take the next few days to make up his mind. Internet reports of a Tuesday press conference to announce a decision are not accurate, Murphy said.

Re: Alabama Recruiting News Murphy needs to get his head on straight. If he thinks this little ploy will guarantee him a starting job {At Alabama} he needs to think again. The job will be won by the guys who work the hardest and preform under pressure. Just because he has a big name at his high school doesn't mean crap to Saban.
