| Re: Alabama Recruiting News Monday, January 22, 2007 Alabama did not pick up a verbal commitment on Sunday, but it looked to move closer on key football prospects such as UMS-Wright's Brandon Gibson, Tarrant's Marquis Maze, and Lakeland, Fla., defensive tackle John Brown. The Crimson Tide also appeared to make strides on swaying in-state products Sidell Corley of McGill-Toolen and Jared Cooper of W.S. Neal away from their original commitments to Florida and Auburn, respectively. Corley, clearly a top target of the new Nick Saban regime at Alabama, was hosted by Wallace Gilberry of Bay Minette and was invited to sit at the head table with the Sabans during a Friday night meal with prospects. Corley told Scout.com he was still committed to Florida, where he will visit next weekend, but that Alabama made up ground. "I was feeling real good about Alabama, and then coach (Mike) Shula got fired," Corley told the recruiting web site. "I had some doubts, but after this visit I'm starting to feel that way about Alabama like the old times again." Cooper had a grayshirt offer by Auburn upgraded to a full scholarship before he tripped to Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Now the big offensive lineman will have to weigh his commitment to Auburn against a full scholarship offer from the school he grew up cheering for, Alabama. Gibson was thought to be Alabama's best chance at landing a verbal pledge over the weekend, but he did not pull the trigger. "I'm not going to announce my decision until signing day," Gibson told TiderInsider. "We'll have a ceremony at my school where I will announce." Gibson said Alabama still holds a lead over Auburn and South Carolina for his services. Maze had been a Michigan commitment, but the two mutually parted and now Alabama is in the running with Miami and Tennessee in the race to land the 5-8, 170-pound versatile speedster. Brown, a teammate of Tide running back signee Jamar Taylor in Lakeland, is expected to choose between Alabama and Florida. Kareem Jackson, from Fort Union, (Va.), verbally committed to the University of Alabama Monday during a visit in Tuscaloosa. Jackson has officially moved in his dorm and will begin classes Tuesday.

| Re: Alabama Recruiting News SIDELL CORLEY DE-COMMITS FROM FLORIDA Scout.com four-star defensive end Sidell Corley de-committed from the University of Florida this afternoon. Scout.com talked with Corley about his decision. "My dad and I really don't want to talk about it right now, but I have de-committed from Florida, Sidell Corley said from Mobile, (Ala.). When asked if he plans to take any visits this weekend Corley said, "No, I'm going to the Senior Bowl with JaMarcus Russell and Wallace Gilberry." Corley plans to take a one more visit to replace his original last visit to Gainesville. "I will visit LSU February 2," he said. "After that visit I will make my decision." Alabama landed the commitment of Scout.com four-star defensive end Luther Davis Thursday night. Davis talks about his big decision to leave the state of Louisiana and roll with the Crimson Tide. "I have made a solid verbal commitment to Alabama," said Luther Davis, from West Monroe, (Louis.). "I committed because of opportunity. I was real nervous when I went on my visit because I was an LSU commitment, but I am glad I took my visit." "Alabama provides me with the best opportunity over the next four to five years. I have no regrets about my decision." Alabama head coach Nick Saban was a big reason for the lineman's change of heart and to de-commit from LSU. "My relationship with Coach Saban has grown because of the kind of person he is," Davis said. "I believe in what he is trying to do at Alabama. He has the same goals he had when he first went to LSU, and I want to be a part of that. I don't want to be a part of the school that just won a national championship or the Sugar Bowl. I want to be a part of the team that is working to win the national championship. I want people to look at the sacrifice I made to come to Alabama and to be happy 30 years down the road that I did." "They want me as a defensive end due to my size. He plays his defensive ends at 260-270 pounds. I am about 267-pounds right now. I am still running a 4.7-forty. I am trying to knock that forty down before I get to Alabama." The U.S. Army All-American is finished with his recruitment. He turns his focus on a few in-state players he hopes will join him in Tuscaloosa. "There is without a doubt I am going to start recruiting for Alabama," Davis said. "I am going to get guys like Joe McKnight, Ahmad Paige and Rolando Melancon to come to Alabama. They can all help change the program into what it needs to be." "My focus right now is to change those guys mind about the other schools and to come to Alabama. I am coming up there next weekend for an unofficial visit. I want the guys to feel comfortable there and know that it is okay to leave the state." "Not a million years would I have ever thought I would be going to Alabama. I never thought this would happen. My visit was great. Actually my favorite movie growing up was Forrest Gump. So it's kind of funny that that's where I am going now." </SPAN>
