The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C., reported on its Web site Monday night that Burns had resigned from Tommy Bowden's staff to accept the Alabama job. Burns joined Bowden at Tulane after working as a high school coach in New Orleans and Shreveport, La. He also had a stint at Southern.
