But who is he, personally? What's his coaching background? Here's a brief bio of the new Alabama football coach.

Nick Lou Saban (born October 31, 1951 in Fairmont, West Virginia) is the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, having accepted the job on January 3, 2007.[1] He was formerly the head coach of the National Football League's Miami Dolphins. Prior to the Dolphins, Saban held head coaching jobs at LSU and Michigan State. Under his leadership in the 2003 season, LSU won the BCS National Championship and Saban was selected both the NCAA Coach of the Year by the Associated Press and the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year by the FWAA. He is married to Terry Saban (formerly Constable) from West Virginia, and has two children.

Saban's first coaching job was as an assistant at Kent State University (his alma mater) in Kent, Ohio. He was a graduate assistant there in 1973-74 and worked as a defensive coach in 1975 and 1976. He went on to be a defensive assistant with Syracuse, WVU, Ohio State and Navy before joining Michigan State as the secondary coach and defensive coordinator in 1983. Saban's first NFL position was as the secondary coach with the Houston Oilers (1988-89) and his first head coaching job with with the University of Toledo (1990). From 1991 through 1994, he was the defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns before becoming head coach with the Spartans in 1995. In 1999, he went to LSU, then to the Miami Dolphins in 2005 and then on to Tuscaloosa, which according to Saban will be the final stop of his coaching career.
As a head coach, Saban has a career record of 91-42-1 in the NCAA and 15-17-0 in the NFL.
