| Coach Saban Not Wasting Any Time Well it looks that the Tides coaching staff is starting to come together he has been interviewing a good many coaches and has desided on at lest one more assistance coach known at this time. Saban did hire Kirby Smart, who was the Dolphins safeties coach, to coach defensive backs at UA. A full roster of coaches with whom he spoke Friday was not available, but some of them are:
Mississippi State running backs coach Shane Beamer, a former Virginia Tech player whose father is longtime Hokies coach Frank Beamer.
Former Houston Texans offensive line coach Steve Marshall, who also was an offensive coordinator at Texas A&M and at North Carolina. Travis Jones, an assistant defensive line coach with the Dolphins, who played at Georgia. Bobby Williams, the Dolphins running backs coach, who followed Saban as Michigan State head coach.
Additionally, LSU offensive line coach Stacy Searels is expected to visit Tuscaloosa and speak with Saban Saturday. Williams was offered a position, but it is not clear if that is true of any of the other coaches.
Saban is also going to continue interviews with the rest of the staff who coached under Mike Shula. None have been told their status definitively. The status of defensive coordinator Joe Kines, who has said Alabama is his last coaching stop, has not been made public. Coaches already hired Kevin Steele, the former FSU linebackers coach, and Lance Thompson, the former Central Florida defensive coordinator. Steele will be the defensive coordinator, but Thompson's title has not yet been decided. It is looking good as the Tide"s staff is shaping up. |
