Earth Quake tremmors reported across the SEC!

Turns out it was just Tubby and AU along with the rest of the SEC trembling in fear at the announcement of Saban accepting the UA job.

1) If Shula went 10-2 in 2005 with limited scholarships from probation, just how will good will Saban do now that UA is off probation?

2) Typical quote from this message board during the last month: " Nobody wants to coach at Alabama!" " Alabama cant find anyone who will coach there"

Alabama got their 1st choice! Saban was the #1 choice from the start.

True, R.R. was the first "offer" but when he turned it down they made a formal offer to Saban.

What can we all learn from this?

Alabama has deep enough pockets and the gravity of the pagentry and tradition of the program they can and always will have their pick of any coach they want. Deal with it.

Wow, no offense, but that's some messed up logic. They got a good coach, but I find it hard to believe that the guy who got the first offer wasn't the first choice. And then what about Spurrier? I thought HE was the first choice, but he turned you guys down. Funny how the first guy to actually accept winds up being the guy who "really wanted all along."

That people will do anything for money, especially when it comes by the bucketfull? That Nick Saban can't coach in the NFL?

Except for Rodriguez. Or Spurrier. Or... ah, the heck with it. You guys got a decent coach with a pretty good record of winning in the NCAA. And you only had to make him the highest paid coach in all of college football for him to buy into the "pagentry and tradition of the program." Congrats. I think. Enjoy him for the two or three seasons you have him until he decides to go elsewhere for yet MORE money. After all, like I said, he's the Larry Brown of football.

Re: Earth Quake tremmors reported across the SEC!

Reports still say that Saban was if not our only, one of our 1st choices, that is true. But Rod showed us interest in the job himself, (which we all know now was to get more money) and being as he was a good coach, we couldn't not offer him the job, being as we had no sure bet we could get Saben when the season wasn't even over. So yes it could very well be 100% true that he was our first choice, but he couldn't talk to us till after his season was over.

WHy are you so offended that UA got Saban? If he is such a loser coach in the NFL and and unloyal and a liar ... why are you and many others so "threatened" by his presence at the capstone? Im confused.

Sorry my friend... but the Miami season was still in progress, thats why he was not made a official offer from the onset.
And YES he was the top canidate from the start.

Outside of the faithful the Crimsom Nation they cant stand to think that just maybe BAMA IS ON THE WAY BACK and that scares the rest of the SEC and more so Tommy Tubberville bet he is chewing the nails off those five fingers right now, and ole Fat Phil is beside himself.

Saban wasn't Alabama's first choice. Rich Rodriguez was. He just turned them down to stay at WVU.

I said it once and I will say it again and again they had talked about Saban from the get go, trust me I live in Alabama and they have talked about him from day one. But being a NFL coach you cannot talk to another team about a job during the regular season. Rod showed interest in the job (which turned out to be ONLY for the money) so being as he is a good coach with a proven record, we couldn't just not offer him the job because then how bad would we had looked if we passed him up to get Saban or Spurrier. The truth is NONE of us but the ones who do the hiring really know who our first choice was. But I have to thing logic will tell you they have always wanted SABAN over Coach Rod.

Count on it, you're reading WAY too much into Lefty's post. He doesn't have a dog in this hunt. I can guarantee you that he's neither offended not threatened by anything about Saban & the Alabama football program.

I'm a Vol fan. Not only am I not scared, I'm pretty happy about Saban. It sucked that a great SEC program like Bama has been on such hard times recently. Oh, sure, I'll hope & pray that Bama never beats UT but I'll be pulling for you guys in most every other game. You guys will win some & the Vols will win some. But the SEC is better off with a strong Alabama football program.

Agree with you on on all points. While it's been a painful 6 weeks for Tide fans, it looks like this is the best possible outcome that anyone could have hoped for. I mean besides Stallings replacing Mal Moore as AD

That is the opposite of correct.

RR was the 1st official offer, but UA wanted Saban as the 1st choice from the start but his agent gave word to UA officials there was no interest, Hence the comments Saban made reguarding not going being the UA coach... THEREFORE the 1st official offer was to RR. Once the Miami season had ended the UA officials gave Saban another look and actually contacted him with an official offer.
Hope this clears things up.

Chris Mortensson(sp?) just explained this scenario on ESPN.

Hope this clears things up.

You better believe that the SEC is shaking. Even here is Atlanta on the sports talks shows, that HATE Bama, or admitting that this changes everything in the SEC! Can you only imagine the difference in recruiting from Shula to Saban?!?! All those kids that wanted to go to Bama but were unsure of Shula, Coaching, Losing, etc now can to go to Bama and win. I am so happy today and give out a big ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!

Re: Earth Quake tremmors reported across the SEC!

Supposedly Saban's agent floated reports out to the college community back in October that the coach was interested in returning to the NCAA.

I'm going by who they offered the deal to first.

Actually Saban's agent approached Bama after the loss to Tennesee.

Eh, I'm not offended. I hope he works out for you guys, I really do. Truth be told, I'd love to see your program make a big comeback and rise like a phoenix from the ashes.

Two things bug me about this. One is the disingenuous fans who pretend like the offers to Rodriguez and Spurrier didn't happen and that Saban was the #1 guy all along. Come on, guys, be honest... there was some desperation on the university's part, and it took a big money deal to lure a big name coach to Tuscaloosa. It's OK to admit it (but at least you don't pretend like there was a signed contract last week).

The other is Saban himself. I've said this so many times even I'm sick of hearing me say it, but he's quickly becoming the Larry Brown of football. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull a Franchione on you guys and dump you as fast as he dumped the Dolphins, and I think a storied program like yours deserves better. Make any sense?

Are you kidding? I'd LOVE for you guys to become a national power again. Your school has way too rich a history to languish on the field and with the scandals you've had in the past decade. I dislike and distrust Saban, but I do hope that he's the guy who can bring you back to the promised land. The Iron Bowl should not have a predetermined outcome each year; I want to see two great teams take the field in that one and beat the snot out of each other. It's a great game and it deserves to feature two teams that are ranked, preferrably in the top 10.

Oh please stop with all this character assisnation of Saban! Everyone acts like he stole candy from a baby! He made a business decision-that's all! How many of you can say you never bluffed to get a better deal on a car or your house? Come on just jump down off your high horses and call a spade a spade. He bluffed to get the deal he did- He is now the highest paid coach in college.
And as far as second choices, well sometimes what we think we want at first is not always the best. I wanted to marry my college sweetheart, I sure am glad that didn't work out. 12years and counting and 2 great kids with my #2!
