Then by that logic, so did Dennis Franchione. So then you guys need to get off his back. It's either both or neither. There's no difference in what either coach did. Both broke their contracts to jump ship to a job offer they felt was more attractive, so either it's OK for both of them or for neither of them. To seperate the two and say one is OK and the other isn't, well, that would reek of hypocrisy to me.

There is no hypocrisy here. Franchione made a business decision. Now I don't have to like it, but it was never a moral issue! Business decisions are made every day that people don't like, but it is not personal, it's business. My friend's husband is a pilot for Delta and had his retirement package and pay cut to keep the airline alive- difficult decisions are made everyday. People always have to do what is best for them and their families. Did I like what Coach Fran did-no! Will I always pull for any team that plays Texas A&M-yes. And it stops there!

I'm going by who they offered the deal to first.
True, the agent contacted them after the MSU game.

Two things bug me about this. One is the disingenuous fans who pretend like the offers to Rodriguez and Spurrier didn't happen and that Saban was the #1 guy all along. Come on, guys, be honest... there was some desperation on the university's part, and it took a big money deal to lure a big name coach to Tuscaloosa. It's OK to admit it (but at least you don't pretend like there was a signed contract last week).

The other is Saban himself. I've said this so many times even I'm sick of hearing me say it, but he's quickly becoming the Larry Brown of football. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull a Franchione on you guys and dump you as fast as he dumped the Dolphins, and I think a storied program like yours deserves better. Make any sense?
i agree with you on most of this. as a bama fan, sometimes it is hard to stomach some of my compadres (nobody on this board).

of course we made an offer to rodriguez, everybody knows that. we needed a coach. remember this was when recruiting was still going on. that is a pretty big deal. rodriguez got a 75% raise and he is happy at wvu. good for him. i am sure that we put a "feeler" out ot spurrier, who also got a nice little raise.

however, saban or spurrier, were always the first choice. like i said, when they took everything into consideration. recruiting the bowl game, it made more sense to go out and get a quality coach, like rich rodriguez, than wait around for saban, who was not a lock, and he would not negotiate during the season. after rr gave us the high hat, mal sat tight and did the right thing for once.

let me say this about mal moore, everyone wants to dump on this guy, but he hasn't exactly been dealing with an ideal situation. gene stallings gave mike dubose the vote of confidnence after running bill oliver out of bama. the hiring of dubose seemed like a slam dunk at the time. he was a bear cub, defense coordinator, and won an sec championship. he could not keep it in his pants and he is an idiot redneck. mal hired dennis franchoine, which was a good hire. how could anyone expect fran to stick around with the mess that bama had created. now the one problem that i have is hiring that drunken fool mike price. there is no way that mal did not know that this guy was a loose cannon that could not handle his liquor. he actually had two sit downs with him about drinking in the bars in tuscaloosa before price decided to whore it up in pc. shula was a good hire. shula sucks as a coach, but he did as good a job as he could, and he settled everything down. so all in all, i think mal has done a pretty good job with what he was delt. can you imagine the pressure he is under?

saban is larry brown and if the bama nation thinks that he is going to work out that 8 year contract, they should be locked up in a padded room. however, if he can get us back in the national spotlight (which he will) we will not have such a mess in hiring another coach. that is if we do not promote jimbo fisher to head coach.

i didn't listen to any of the local sports channels today, i listened to the pinko-communist of espn. wow, they are bashing saben and bama good. it is incredible. i thought dan lebaretarted, was going to jump up and down on the desk of pti and pee his pants. kornheiser got pissed at him and told him to shut up.

jeff shultz of the ajc has his yamika in a wad also. he loves to bash old alabama. i think it is funny, i hope we destroy georgia next year. i have hated them ever since herschell walker days. my god you would think that they win the nc every other year. i really like richt and dooley, it is just the fans. wow.

I agree with you 100% but let the AU fans say what they want to say when we beat them in november they will know waz up.
