Where is Nick Saban?

So far there is no sign of Nick at Miami wonder what's up? ESPN says no show so far and a uncofirmed report Bama Jet has left.

Re: Where is Nick Saban?

The word is that Saban is on his way, via private jet, to Tuscaloosa after NO SHOWING for his meeting with the Dolphins owner!

So to summarize: Saban allegedly notified his coaches of his decision via speaker phone, not in person. So let's see... he bailed on his current employer after just two seasons, negotiated for a new job when he should have been preparing for the final game of the year, failed to show for a scheduled meeting with his employer, told his co-workers via the phone that he was leaving and then seemingly snuck off like a thief in the night. Not to mention that he went on record that we was not going to accept the Bama job, then turned around and did just that.

If all of this is as it appears, I really have to question Saban's integrity. Are you guys SURE this is the kind of coach you want?

A fair question, but if you remember from 4 years ago, we HAD that kind of coach, he who shall not be named who coaches for Texas A&M. We're used to it. Anyway, his agent was negotiating not Saban personally. Sure, his mind must have been on it, though. I have to say, he should say goodbye to the team personally, and to the coaches. It's something I think that jerk at Texas A& M did wrong. But let's wait and see what happened. These are still unconfirmed reports, and speculation is that Saban actually spoke with Huzienga yesterday and waited a day for them both to save face. However, even if he snuck off, that is post acceptance of the contract, nothing Bama can control, and let's hope the decision to hire "St. Nick" pays off.
I did just hear this report on the radio. 660 a.m.

Re: Where is Nick Saban?

Yeah, I guess that's what I'm getting at. You guys had this done to you. Now you have a guys who's perfectly willing to do the same to someone else, and may well be more than willing to do it to you guys too in 2 or 3 years. Saban wins football games, but if all these reports are true, then his character stinks. I guess he's the anti-Shula, eh?

Re: Where is Nick Saban?

Exactly! Saban is the "Anti-Shula." Don't get me wrong, I had nothing but respect for Shula as a person. As a head football coach...not so much. As far as his denials, leaving without talking to everyone in person, blah blah blah...look others who have been in his situation. WHO has done things any differently?

Re: Where is Nick Saban?

AS I suspected, ESPN just updated their article to include the following :

" Saban told team owner Wayne Huizenga of his intentions in a face-to-face meeting "

ESPN.com - NCF - Saban rolls with the Tide, takes Alabama job

Re: Where is Nick Saban?

Yep, I posted my "mea culpa" in another one of the 165 Nick Saban threads on the boards right now... lookes like I jumped the gun in my condemnation of him. Any word yet as to when the press conference in Tuscaloosa will be? Will he be coach only, or coach and AD both?

Re: Where is Nick Saban?

I heard we're going to make him King... If he beats Auburn, we'll change the name of Tuscaloosa to "Sabanville"!

Re: Where is Nick Saban?

Now how does this work? Does he fly to Alabama ASAP and buy a house or does he still chill in Miami until they find a new home there?

Little things like that make me think.

Re: Where is Nick Saban?

In his defense, they weren't promising to make him the highest paid coach in college football back on Dec. 21. Amazing how money can change things, isn't it?
