Re: Saban Accepts

Thanks for getting the scoop, Leigh.
Here's an excerpt:
Quote:
A source said Wednesday morning that Saban has agreed to become the new head coach at the University of Alabama, ending his two-year tenure with the Dolphins.

A source said Saban failed to show this morning for a scheduling meeting at team headquarters in Davie with Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga. Saban told Huizenga of his intentions via telephone and then informed all of his coaches by speakerphone that he was leaving to accept the Alabama position, the source said.

Re: Saban Accepts

Yep, it's official - he is out as the Dolphins coach and on his way to Bama. He didn't show up for his meeting with the Dolphins and told his staff via speaker phone that he was leaving. Classless move on his part.

Re: Saban Accepts Alabama Coaching Job

This is what I posted on the other thread as to what ESPN TV is saying:

ESPN just updated that the owner and Saban met at Saban's house instead of at the Dolphins headquarters. Saban said he wanted to go to Alabama but would stay at the Dolphins if the owner wanted him to. The owner told him to follow his feelings and go to Alabama. He has not left for Alabama yet, but has opted to leave...

Roll Tide!!!

Re: Saban Accepts Alabama Coaching Job

ok, someone has to play devils advocate

my big problem with this deal is the length of contract....8-10 years

what if Saban doesnt work out ?

what if he doesnt beat Auburn next year ?

what if 3 or 4 years go by and he has yet to go to any BCS bowl ?

seems risky to me

Re: Saban Accepts Alabama Coaching Job

Yeah, I'm hearing the same reports now -- looks like I (and a few others) might have jumped the gun on calling Saban out for the way he left. In fact, Huizenga himself at the press conference confirmed that he met with Saban at Saban's hope. So my bad. In terms of the contract length, it's risky on both ends. Saban seems to be football's version of Larry Brown. He could not work out, or he could get bored and need to move on. We'll have to see what happens!

Re: Saban Accepts Alabama Coaching Job

Simple Simon....What if Alabama doesn't win against Auburn next year? It seems like you expect a whole lot in a coaches first year. Are you saying that if Alabama loses against Auburn that thre is something "wrong" with Saban? Alabama is not preordained to always win football games no matter who the coach is. Saban will most likely have a much better season than this season for Alabama, but if you think he can go in and correct everything in the program and get Alabama ( the chosen ones ) to win against Auburn is like going to Las Vegas with the intensions of winning enough money to pay for your mothers operation. Good luck to Mom!

Re: Saban Accepts Alabama Coaching Job

The pressure on Saban to win early and often, especially against Auburn, is going to be brutal. Hope he's ready for the challenge!

Re: Saban Accepts Alabama Coaching Job

I wonder if his concerns about all the wealthy figureheads at 'Bama will materialize or if they will be taken care of as a request for him coming to Alabama.

welcome to the forum dude

now on to your questions

im personally not an Alabama fan......i dont dislike them either im basically indifferent to them..........i just love sports in general and football most of all

the questions i raised stem from reports i hear about Alabama fans....dont the live and breath to beat Auburn ? .........because thats what i have been led to believe

dont Alabama fans consider a season a failure if they lose to Auburn ?......thats how the media has portrayed it to me

i always hear they want the next Bear Bryant........face it, it isnt going to happen.......no one can ever live up to that

again bdodd welcome to the forum, and dont take the crap i say to heart im just raising questions is all

OH TOTALLY, ROTFLMAO!

Yes, B Dodd, that is, unfortunately, the attitude that many Bama fans have. It's hard to forget, if you were alive during the "Bear" era, that we AREN'T pre-ordained to win. So true. The legend lives on, esp in our minds. We hsould, in the future, at least make our expectations REASONABLE. it takes a few years to actually build a program. Can't do it tomorrow. If we beat Tubby and AU next year, it will be with Shula recruits, and some think that is an impossibility. We'll just have to see....

And it's hard to let it go (not that I"m advocating that...) -- Apparently in the writer of "We Are Marshall" - it seems you can't have a story about college football in the modern era without at least mentioning the Bear.

But hey, today is a day for JOY at the Capstone and for fans everywhere. This is the best christmas present EVER!
ROLL TIDE!!!!
