Alabama Fans

I share a little of Gotham's sentiments from his thread. I would love for you guys to make a guest appearance in our other threads, you guys are truly passionate about the sports world.
There is one thing I am finding hard to understand, you guys think that Alabama football is the center of the College Football world. I am with no intention trying to flame anyone, I am just saying I think Auburn is probably a more important contributor to NCAAF. The reason you guys really cant land a high profile coach is just because...well...you guys arent that high profile anymore. I mean not since the 60's - 70's maybe. I am all for rooting for the hometown, I have been doing it my entire life, but I dont expect the Buffalo Bills to command national attention and land a high profile College or Pro football coach. I mean we couldnt even get Mike Sherman to coach our team. If anything I would have promoted someone within the program already because all you guys are doing is damaging any recruiting interests you may have. THe SEC is the toughest conference in all the land. I wish you all the luck on turning the ship around, but just as Colin Cowherd said on his radio show a few weeks ago Bama football needs to wake up. Best of luck. Roll Tide
And please take me up on the visiting other parts of our great sports talk forum.

Wink Re: Alabama Fans

You know, I can understand were you and that other guy are coming from. But you are from New York, it would not be expected for someone, like yourself, who did not grow up in Alabama to "get it". Growing up in Alabama was great, believe it or not. The bad thing was that if you grew up here this is the only sport, college football; we don't have pro sports here but we do have two major universities that are excellent acadimic, as well as, athletic instatutions. If you were to move anywere in Alabama, your neighbors would come to you soon and say "who are you for". If you acted confused about the question, it would be explained just once, "Alabama or Auburn" and there would be no middle ground. There's no Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, etc.... or any other sports for that matter. Granted there's Baseball or Basketball but it is basically the same way, "Alabama or Auburn". People in Alabama are "college football fans". We are not only talking about Bama fans but Auburn fans are as fanatic as we are. There is just nothing for them to be fussing about at this given minute but there will be soon. No Bama fan believes that we are at the top of the food chain right this minute or deserve to be but we do know that it sucks to be loosing, especially to Auburn. Auburn fans would feel the same way if the shoe were on the other foot. Don't kidd yourself for a second by thinking this attitude is just a Bama Fan epadimic b/c it is not. Go to Ole' Miss, Miss State, Tenn, LSU, Tx., Texas A&M, S. C.,and for the love of God Florida, the fans in these states are the same way. Basically what I am tring to explain to you or anyone else is that you should not judge our "concern" with who our coach is going to be because this is a part of life for us. Loosing suxxxxxxx and we realize that the rest of the nation doesn't see us as a contender or maybe never did, so we want some one who will put the roll back into the tide. And at this given moment in time, there is no other sport or University conversation that comes anywhere close too holding people's interest here. So with all do respect intended, if you or anyone else dosen't want to talk about Alabama Football or The next coach at Alabama, then I would suggest clicking on some other forum (I have seen others on this site) that best suits your needs as a sports fan, because we are curious and anxious to talk to other bama fans who have ideas on who is going too take us back to the glory days of winning football games.

Re: Alabama Fans

Northerners just don't understand why we don't care about the Red Sox & Yankees. We have little interest in the NFL only in the players who graduated from Alabama. The only other sport we semi follow is NASCAR. Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, Soccer they just don't hold any interest in our state so why should we care about them?

Re: Alabama Fans

In the south with the exception of the state of Florida, college football is 365 days a year. During the offseason we try to follow recruting, springgames, then till the fall we talk about our teams and try to find something on football.Thank God for playstation, cause without NCAA 07 I would go mad. COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS A WAY OF LIFE IN ALABAMA,wether you are a bama fan, auburn, georgia, tenn. ext. People in GA. and Tenn. take it the same way, there programs are just in better shape right now,or they would be doing the same as we are.So if you dont like it go to another forum yourself, cause when I logg on, this forum is labeled ALABAMA FOOTBALL,not nascar, not baseball ext,and surely not those DAMN YANKEES! Plese dont quote people in Georgia. yes we love college football but there are other things here to do such as Pro teams, museums, ect to occupy some of our time. You have just quoted the reason Alabama (the state) gets such a bad rap! In Georgia we do enjoy a good book as well!

Yeah and Georgia hasn't done anything since Herschel Walker. I guess you like watching Michael Vick & the Falcons or those pathetic Braves or prehaps it is the Thrashers or the Hawks that occupy your time. The best thing about Georgia is it is on the way to Alabama.

Re: Alabama Fans

Stoney lets take a quick look here. The Braves have been one of the most dominate forces in the MLB since the early 90's. The Thrashers are like 3rd in the NHL in the points standings. And Georgia has been a better team in the SEC than Alabama for a while now

All I can say is that if UA isn't what it was once in the past, which I agree right now it is no where near where it was.... and if UA football is not important to the NCAA then why are you and so many others coming to all these forums just to talk about it..... I mean all you have heard today it UA this and UA that.... They are talking about this everywhere... Before, during and after one of the best college football days of the year..... ????? That for one tells me that the NCAA needs UA just as much as UA needs the NCAA..... If UA wasn't still a big time school they wouldn't be talked about so much... It would be like all of the other schools that was looking for coaches this year.... You hear about it when they get one.... From the get go, when they fired MS every sports media outlet made this one of their biggest stories...... But you and everyone else is entitled to your opinion...
