A Division 1 AA coach?

Living in in the Chattanooga, TN. area me and my family went to the biggest event of the year,. The division 1 AA National Championship. We watched Appilachian state dominate Umass for 60 mins.Appy state's coach is a proven winner,he has 2 national championships,2 the school never had until this and last year.He runs the same spread offense coach rod wouldve installed if he came, only Appy runs it to perfection!.Think about it people, what would be wrong with it if we cant get the home run.For example,Jim Tressle,he won 2 1AA natonal championships at Youngstown state, now he is winning National titles at Ohio State.Mal If U read these, GIVE IT SOME THOUGHT!!!!!!!!!!

Re: A Division 1 AA coach?

How old is he and does he have any ties to Alabama?

That is what you need ... a up and comer ... not an established old coach.

You need someone that can stay for say 20 years and develop your program into a powerhouse again.

If Saban did come (which I seriously doubt), wouldn't you be worried that every year he would go somewhere for more money?

Exclamation Re: A Division 1 AA coach?

HC at Appy is Jerry Moore. He just finished his 18th season at ASU. No ties to Alabama. He was HC at Tx Tech in the early 80's but was only there 4 yrs...sound familiar? Baylor grad in '61 puts him in his mid-60s...too old in my opinion. His son, Chris, is the RB coach there, though. Wonder if he's absorbed enough of his dad's winning ways to be the no-name boy wonder we need. Don't know enough about him, though.

Re: A Division 1 AA coach?

I truely believe we HAVE to have a homerun. I really don't care if he stays 4 years or if he stays 20. If we can get any proven HC, (Saban) then it will help us. If he comes and has 4 9 or 10 win seasons we should get anyone we want after him. If we get someone that isn't a proven HC and we have another shula era then we are done. We have given to many unproven people enough chances.

Re: A Division 1 AA coach?

I bet you could have hired Dennis Erickson if you had tried before he changed jobs.

He has won a national championship. I think he is the worst nfl coach I have ever seen ... but Pete Carroll wasn't too good there either!?

Would that have worked?

Re: A Division 1 AA coach?

If they had a thought about 1AA coaches which they don't they would have gone after Grobe at Wake he is Div 1 and has done something with nothing. Not to fear though Alabama is going to get either Saban or Gruden either one will make a fine coach.
