Gruden tops short list

Even the Orlando newspaper admits that there is hope that Alabama can retain John Gruden as thier next head coach. The fact that it is strangely silent in Tuscaloosa lends credence that "those in the know" don't know anything more than you and I do. Hopefully the Bama Boosters will take this into consideration before allowing themselves to be made fun of by the rest of the nation.

Personally I think Gruden would make an excellent fit.

I really hate to burst your happy bubble, but Orlando's paper is...uh...well less than than great...we call it the "Slantinel" affectionally...for its slanted takes on things...

From what I'm reading/hearing out of Tampa, there's a growing dislike for Gruden among Tampa fans and the Glazers may force him out or flat out fire him within the next month.

you think?...someone will come up with the fact that they traded away two 1st round picks for him...and no one wants to say that was a mistake.

All the better reason for him to go to Alabama, the Glazers save face and Tampa heads off in a different direction. Meanwhile the University of Alabama would get a proven coach. It looks like a win / win situation.

Yes, yes it has come to this. Honestly, who wants to work in a pressure cooker like you guys have down there in Alabama? No offense to your fine program, but it's unrealistic to expect a coach to be able to turn everything around 100% in 3-4 years.

It might could possibly be Gruden they will go after. It must certainly be someone who is in the NFL right now. If it wasn't they would have done named someone. Why else would they be waiting this long to name one?? Or maybe everyone is telling the truth and noone really wants to come here. ???? Noone really knows............ TO BE CONTINUED AFTER DEC. 31TH 2006

I really don't think it is unrealistic. I mean it was in the past. But in the past these people didn't get paid Millions and Millions of dollors a year. I think 3 is kinda of short but 4 is plenty of time. I mean they are getting paid all of this money to win... Right. I don't know what your profession is but if you don't perform at work for 3-4 years do you expect to have a job?? I sure wouldn't... I really don't think asking for atleast a 9-3 season is unrealistic though. I know that is what i would call a good season. Not great but acceptable enough to keep your job.

It's not from lack of talent, Alabama has plenty of talent play calling has effected our offense. Also it is not unrealistic to turn around in 3-4 years look at USC they did it and look at how many NC they have one since hiring a new coach, and it did't take 3-4 years so yes it is possible with the right coach and Alabama's talent.

Re: Gruden tops short list

The Mobile Register has hinted Saban is going to be the next coach. His old offensive coordinator Jimbo got blocked from becoming the head coach at UAB. Unnamed sources indicated that was because he was to be the new offensive coordinator at Alabama. Joe Kines will stay on as defensive coordinator and Dave Radar will move to quarterbacks coach. Saban will officially be named after the bowl game and or the Dolphins move first.

If Saban does end up leaving the Dolphins, they would have to feel awful. On the other hand, the Crimson Tide would get one of the best coaches in the nation.

Re: Gruden tops short list

Gruden still hasn't said no and Alabama hasn't hire a coach. Saban ran his mouth to the media yeaterday emphatically denying the rumor. My brother still believes this is a ruse because the university is dealing with Saban's agent. I still want Gruden to be the coach.
