| Re: Alabama Offers WVU's Rich Rodriguez I hope coach Rod gets the respect he deserves if he comes to Bama. He is a proven winner and a huge asset to any football program. As a Bama fan, I don't like how coach Shula was treated. But done is done. I am ready to see the rebuilding of the Tide and I think coach Rod is a great choice for the job. Roll Tide! Good luck coach Shula. |

| Re: Alabama Offers WVU's Rich Rodriguez One thing is for certain, Rich will do what is in the best interest of his career and his family. Although, I think Rich should talk to fellow West Virginian, Terry Bowden, to discuss the politics of Alabama College football for some better insight. Some coaches make moves based on career decisions. Take for instance, Nick Saban (known as Brother to the locals in WV because he is a West Virginian from the same general area), who built a great program at Michigan State and then moved on to LSU. While Brother was at LSU they earned a National Title. This put Brother in a quandary, because he had a huge career decision to make. If he stayed at LSU and they did not earn any subsequent National Titles, then some may call it a fluke. So, his only career decision was to move on in his career or face a dilemma. That was an easy decision. Brother’s dad was also named Nick who was a very successful Pop Warner football coach. I was privleged to have played Pop Warner football under his dad. Rich in many aspects has the same decision to make in his career. This will be a test for him to see if he will make a career decision or stick with his heart and his roots. I respect Rich as I have played on the other end of the basketball court and the baseball diamond from him as a competitor. He is a smart, talented, and an intelligent individual. My advice would be to use this offer from Alabama to force West Virginia University to make the right decision and negotiate a package to keep him home. Otherwise, WVU knows the consequences. They should have learned this from the departure of Bobby Bowden back in the 70’s. However, Bobby Bowden had great difficulty beating JoePa at Penn State (bitter rival). Many Alabama and Auburn fans can relate to this situation. I have seen a few Alabama coaches fired and literally chased out of the state with death threats because they could not beat Auburn. Remember Bill Curry… It was rumoured that Bobby Bowden's decision to leave WVU was based on him slipping on a piece of ice and busting his buns. This was suppose to have made his decision complete with an offer from Florida State in hand. Is in snowing in West Virginia tonight? Look out Rich, there could be ice on those streets and sidewalks... Rich Rodriquez is intelligent. I am sure he will make the right choice. WVU may not be able or willing to offer a package that will keep Rich. They need a defense in order to win a national championship game. The offense is capable of delivering, but you must stop the points from the opponent. Alabama could offer the defense side of the equation for a smart offensive coach. Let’s Go Mountaineer’s ! However, this may force me to suck it in and pull for the Tide in the coming year. |

I just don't know why some of the fans of WV are bashing Alabama fans. Not on this forum but on others. It is horrible.... Also on other forums you should see what they are saying about ROD. If they are gonna turn on him that fast just off of rumers I can understand why he wants to leave, but I'm sure thats just a small percent of fans just like everywhere. IT's like you said he will do what is best for him and for his family. Who can fault a guy for leaving to make another million a year. I have also heard that he really has his eyes set on the NFL. If he does I think Alabama would be a better place for him to be, Not saying that WV is not a good place to coach. |

When you see a big sign hanging across the street from your office with "Bye Bye Bowden" and then somebody sticks a "For Sale" sign in your yard, I think most people would get the message they are not wanted. He was not really fired, but his decision was easily made from the situation around him. It was a great career move. Rich on the other hand is loved by the WVU fans, but he has a great career decision to make in signing the paperwork at Alabama today. Can he do it? |
