Alabama Football

Just itroduced myself a few minutes ago, so here's my first "Thread". (hope I do this right)

As everyone can tell from my intro I am an Alabama fan, so I do have opinions regarding the recent firing of Mike Shula. Would like to list these in bullet points. (Is this allowed?)

Yes, like all major fams I thought the "Bear" could walk on water. But I do understand, he was not exactly perfect, close. But, we Alabama fan have to understand he is not coming back.

Yes, Alabama fans, let's except we have a number of rich, arm-chair alum that likes to use their money to tell the University how to run the atheletic department despite they have never lifted a piece of sports equipement in their life unless it was to have their picture taken with itm nost fans are spportive of our Team. As a result of these rich arm-chair alums, Alabama has made a number of atheletic hiring errors in the past several years, (my knowledge/opinion of this has to center around football).

I believe but don't know that our NCCA probation problems probably resulted from this alum money.

I don't like losing to Auburn five years in a row but don't believe this should be a major decision in firing a coach.

I was/am a fan of Mike Shula. I heard that he could be stubborn and argumentative at times, who blames him, (other thnt the rich arm-chair alums), (others may have but they/we didn't have the money to have an opinion to count). Shula took on a very tough job, at an early age. He was in a position to turn around a bad situation under extremely bad circumstances. None of his recruinting, not being able to participate in spring practice, the history of the three previous coaches, and a probation that does not completely end until 2007. I know the Alabama head coaching position is pretigious, but you have to admire a young coach taking this on as his first head coaching position.

Ok, I know I have probably exceeded my opinion, but this was my first time, I had read a number of the prior threads.

My last word, this time, when Sprurrier is announced as the new coach and AD,. yes AD, within the next few days, I hope Alabama fans will rally around him, hope that he is like the "Bear" and tell the money bags where to get off, and the fans will give him the time to finish turning the program around. After all Shula let him a lot of strong good talent coming up.

Roll Tide!!!

Re: Alabama Football

Great 1st post, AJ! I moved it over here to the Alabama team forum so more fans will be able to find it. Hope to hear more from you as Bama makes (hopefully) a good hire for the head coaching spot.

Well, it is my understanding that Sprurrier was happy to settle with a 2 year extension plus $500,000 a year more from SC. Not like he needed money after his $25,000,000 buy from the Redskins.

Not sure where Bama will go now. Last week AJC speculated, Mike Riley (?) at Wisconsin was one alternative choice if Spurrier said no.

Two ESPN articles last week, one being Bill Curry, ripped Alabama apart for the number of coach changes in the past 25 years and for not giving Shula a little more time considering the circumstances he started under.

Will be intersting to see what they do not to appease the "Money Bag' Alum that seem to push Alabama into all of these changes.

Re: Alabama Football

Yeah I still think they will look to the NFL and either get some coach who gets fired (Jim Fassel, or maybe even Romeo Crennel) or some NFL coordinator. I'll be very interested to see where this one goes....

Are we the only two on "Alabama Football"? As I indicated in my intro I'm not that familiar with a Blog. Can't bring the Bear back. Do you think we could get Don Shula to come out of retirement. Then he could be head coach and let Mike make the calls with his support? (just kidding). Maybe we should apply. I would be willing to work at the job for between $250,00 and $500,00 a year plus expenses. As a female it might take me a little time to fully understand the purpose of each position, now defense from office, quarterback from kicker, plus several others. Just a small learning curve. Not sure how I would handle to practices or games in the extreme heat or cold, but know my Puggle, Bama, would love them. He has sharp teeth, just image how he could nip at the receivers to teach them to high step. Kidding aside, I have no clue who is out there for Alabama. Maybe we should go back to Mikie and negoitate some terms. I fear someday he will be a sourch to recon with as he matures. At this point I guess we just wait to see who the "money bags" prefer.

Let me offer a couple pointers to help you find your way around to the many discussions (discussions are called "threads") that we have here...

Our website is made up of different message board sections (called a forum or sub-forum) for each team, school or sport. You can see an example of how we've organized our website if you'll look at the top left of this page.

Each page of the site has a set of links near the top left called a "bread crumb trail" that you can use to go up one level from where you are. So looking at the bread crumb trial for this thread, you can jump to any of the forums above that thread by clicking one of the links that look like this:

GoTeamsGo Sports Fan Forum > College Sports > SEC Sports > Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama Football

Usually, anytime you see some underlined words, you can click on those words and they'll take you to another page. Underlined words that take you to another page are called "links."

There are only the 3 of us in this discussion thread about Alabama football but if you click over to the main page for our Alabama Crimson Tide Forum, you'll see that there are several active threads including these:
Next Alabama Head Coach
Fire Mal Moore
Alabama in Independence Bowl
Next Coach: Houston Nutt?
http://www.goteamsgo.com/forum/alaba...s-getting.html

Just click the link to go to those other threads and read what other people are saying.

Many threads will span several pages in which case you'll see something near both the top left & bottom left that says:
"Page 1 of 15 1 2 3 11 > Last »"

That tells you you're looking at page 1 of a 15 page thread. You can get to page 2 by clicking the "2" or you can jump to the "Last" page of the thread by clicking Last.

You can join in any discussion by clicking the "Post Reply" button on any of those pages.

Hope that helps. I hope you'll join in some of the other discussions that we've got here.
