Wow,

Getting Spurrier as the head coach at Alabama would be the best Christmas gift I could imagine this year.

I grew up with the Bear and wonderful football memories. I want that type of greatness for my 4 year old son as he is growing up!!!!!!!!!!

I have always loved 'the Spur' and when I first heard his name mentioned I was so thrilled. I have had my ear glued to the radio from 2pm until 7pm daily hoping to hear the hopes confirmed.

How will we ever be satisfied with someone else now that they have dangled him before us for so long.......

Oh, how fun.

I can understand. Just the other day I was hanging out with a South Carolina alum... I guess it was Monday, I was anxiously awaiting what I thought would be a 2pm press conference announcing Spurrier as the new head.

Unfortunately, my South Carolina friend rained on my parade. Telling me that Spurrier would be going nowhere when I taunted him that we were about to 'steal his coach'.

I am on pins and needles.

When are they going to know if SC has a bowl game?

I won't believe that we aren't getting the spur until either he or Mal make a direct announcement that it is not happening.

Lot of smoke swirling around Spurrier the past few weeks. Still no fire..... yet. While I'd be surprised if you get your Christmas wish, I think it's a pretty long shot.

There is no way Spurrier is leaving SC to come to Alabama! So you better come up with a different Christmas wish!

My dear Alabama fans. While I can understand your desire to lure Coach Spurrier away from the Gamecock Nation, you must realize that he will not be heading your way. We lost to Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida by a combined 21 points this year. We lose three starters, total, from both offense and defense. Our O-line, D-line, QB and especially Sidney Rice, will all be back next year. Additionally, without all of our committments finalized right now(i.e. Garcia the QB from Tampa, Rivals.com #3) we still have a top 20 recruiting class which will probably end up being a top 10 recruiting class once Coach Spurrier is finished. He loves a challenge and everyone has said he can't win with us. You know as well as we do that he's competitive and wants to prove the naysayers wrong. Know this....he will do just that. While I do like Alabama, and wish you well in your search, please quit fooling yourself you can't get Coach Spurrier with money. He has more than he can spend now. When we hired him we offered him a package that included a base salary of 1.5 million and he said 1.25 was enough for him and for us to give the other 250k to his assistants. Sorry...my post messed up since I'm new. Again, I do wish my Alabama friends the best of luck, but you won't get Coach Spurrier. What you really should do is quit fooling yourself and go after someone who you have a legitimate shot at getting. As far as not winning the SEC that remains to be seen. We're loaded for next year, have a great incoming recruiting class, and, of course, we have the Ol ball coach calling the plays. If memory serves me Florida had never even won 9 games in any season before 1990(Coach Spurrier's first year). In 12 years there he won the SEC 6 times and a National Championship once. While we're in Nashville or Memphis we'll be sure to watch your game in Shreveport.
