Next Coach: Mike Sherman?

This is the 1st time I've heard Mike Sherman's name mentioned as a possibility. This was in the Houston Chronicle:
Quote:
Mike Sherman's name has been mentioned in connection with the Alabama job that became available this week when Mike Shula was fired.

Sherman, who is in his first season as Gary Kubiak's assistant head coach/offensive line, also was mentioned for the Iowa State job that went to Texas defensive coordinator Gene Chizik.

Asked about interest in the Alabama job, Sherman said he has a great job with the Texans, is focusing on Sunday's game at Oakland, and never comments about other jobs.
I don't know much about Mike Sherman & there's not been any discussion of him in our Houstan Texans forum.

Anybody know why he might have been mentioned? Is he an alum?

Sherman is eh. I don't know if he's ever been a head coach in NCAA but as part of the Packers, I know Green Bay fans were never thrilled with the guy.

Re: Next Coach: Mike Sherman?

tidesports.com had a story on it yesterday, but when I tried to pull up the link for it, it was broken ; however, I found the link below with the story...
Tide coaching search might have first bite - Tuscaloosa

If for some reason the link doesn't work, here are the opening (and relevant) paragraphs of the story (written by Christopher Walsh):

TUSCALOOSA | On a day when prominent coaches around the country were all but taking turns declaring how happy they are at their current jobs, a new name surfaced in the University of Alabama’s search for a new coach.

A source close to Houston Texans assistant head coach/offense Mike Sherman indicated that he would be interested in the position if the Crimson Tide came calling.

Re: Next Coach: Mike Sherman?

I don't think he is a fit, He has no ties to UA that I know of, he didn't have a stand out run with the packers, and I don't think his coaching style is right for us.

I don't really know a lot about him, but, from the little I do know, I tend to agree with you.

Hopefully, we'll learn more after the games from today and the bowl bids go out...

Yeah he and Bart Star were friends. But Sherman never had any intention of leaving Seattle. Heck they are in the playoffs fighting for thier lives against his old nemesis Parcells.
