Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

Cheaper might not always be better. You know the thing that gets me about Alabama football is the coaching theory. It dosen't matter who the coach is, we seem to always have a coach that pays more attention to Defense than Offence. If you grew up in the south, we have all heard the same thing that " Defense wins games". Well I have a different oppinion, that is that in years past it wasn't too terriably hard to recriut a middle or outside linebacker that weighted in at 230-250 #s and could run a 4.5-4.6 40. In the past this has been plenty enough speed mixed with size to shut down nearly all offences and Alabama faired very well defenseivlly. While there offenses were as stagnent as swamp water. But in today's college football, wide recievers and runningbacks are running 4.2-4.3 40s and weighing in around 210-225 #s. This is big and very fast. Finding 230-250 # linebackers that have that kind of speed is just about impossible. So in return coaching theory may need to change at Alabama. I am not saying that we should go with a Louisville type defence. ( non-existant ) B/c Alabama has a Big name in the defensive world, the recruting of defensive players will not be that big of an issue. With the hiring of a coach like Willingham, we would be opening the door for a true offensive coach. This type of coach could have a half way decent DC and a good offense and fair well in the SEC. Willingham would be coming from the Pac10 and we all have seen how they like offense out there. He also has coached all around the nation and could possibly recruit well around nation....

Any thoughts???

Red face Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

I'm really wondering what was in mal moore's head besides nothing when he fired shula, next year we would have been hell on wheels. How long are we going to give the next coach . Every big name coach has said no to UA. I would like to see a Sabben or Spurrier but lets face it they ain"t coming . I think a Petrino would be good .Shula done alot of good with what he had to work with . I hope the next coach get"s the job done so we can ROLL-TIDE-ROLL. I have only good to say about shula,I have no doubt that they made a mistake firing him. Shula's heart has always been good, there where times when he needed a little more agression( face it there will never be another BEAR )Shula needed more time and we would have made it. Our family will always be ROLL TIDE FANS no matter who is coach.

I agree with you from a human stand point, but from a football I can't. He had one winning season in 4 years. I understand the 1st one. He should have improved more than he did in the 2nd year. The 3rd I think was the players mading plays not his coaching, and well the last year we lost all those close games because of his coaching decisions. Sometimes when I would be at the games this year I would look at the sidelines and he would just be standing there lifeless when he should be up in someones face. He is ust to the NFL because of his dad. Let the players do what they want just so long they don't get in jail I don't care. Thats how he thinks. This is college and these players need some leadership and dicipline, not a friend.

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!

Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

Coach Rod is at home. Growing up in Grant Town, WV (20 miles from Morgantown) all yea, played football at WVU as well. I have friends on his staff and I'm being told that it will not happen.

Four coaches in seven years? WOW!!! He is making a kings ransom at WV and lets face it WVU (right now) is a much better program. Numbers don't lie. Coach Rod is a very smart man. He knows how to play a school for MO MONEY. Good luck BAMA, I wish you the best (NOT ROD)..

WVU c/o 92

Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

Personally I dont think Rodriguez has the nerve 2 coach in the SEC but if he is the best guy 4 the job I guess we will have 2 take him. I dont know what the chances of getting spurrier are but ive heard Bob Stoops name thrown around saying he was unhappy at OU because of some contraversy that came up about paying players. This might actually work because Spurrier and Stoops Are good friends from the 2000 Florida team. This would give Spurriers kid a chance at a coordinator position possibly leading 2 a head coaching job.

Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

Let me tell ya somethin this Wilson kid is gonna break evry passing record that alabama has ever had in his first season as starter he already has more 200 yd games than any quaterback in bama history.Granted we through the ball a little more than in the days of old, this kid is still gonna be a big name in Tuscaloosa years after he is in the NFL.

Question Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

First of all I think you have the wrong impression of coach Rod He has the nerve to coach any where. He coached the Sugar Bowl Georgia got the Smack. by the Big East West Virginia. Right What they beat a sec team Mississippi State which beat who. Yes I think Coach Rod can coach anywhere he wants but take Spurrier We want Coach Rod Here. He said he was not coming so I don't know what he is doing talking to the Alabama A.D. if he isnt interested some where we are being lied to. He maybe wanting WVU to offer more I say if he wants to go take him you will get a good Coach. I don't think it will take long to geta Coach for WVU like Shula with the offense we have back. I dont know what the problem is in Alabama but why cant they keep a coach. 4 coaches in 7 or 8 years something is wrong other than coach.

If we could get nick saban....the might go somewhere.

We need a butt-chewing coach, Bear Bryant was a butt-chewer behind the scenes.

Shula? Too nice, Too conservative, no imagination.

Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

I truly dislike SS. However he is a proven winner and recruiter. Wilson is far more talented than anybody at SC. Wilson and SS could win a national title. We are only missing one O lineman.

WOW, Coach Rod don't have the nerve to coach in the SEC? Don't be so full of yourself... Yes, the SEC is the best conf. I will give you that. I just ask you look into the numbers. The BIG EAST teams vs the BCS schools. They are the best in the country. If you guys want an "in your face coach" Coach Rod is the best in the country. I think one of you BAMA fans said it best, who in their right mind would take this job? No matter the contract it will be two or three years and your out. IF you get this coach give him a chance. He MUST have the time to get his players. His offence needs a special kind of QB. It will not work with what you have now. He will need two or three years min. to get his kind of guys in the system. Here is the problem with that, four coaches in seven years..... Again, good luck to you guys (without coach Rod).

ESPN.com - NCF - Source: Bama to decide on Rodriguez within 72 hours

Quote:
NEW YORK -- West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez termed his meeting Tuesday with Alabama athletic director Mal Moore in New York as "informal" and tried to lower expectations that anything substantive occurred. However, Alabama will make a decision whether to offer Rodriguez the job within the next 72 hours, a source with knowledge of the discussion told ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel Tuesday night.
