I brought Probst into this thread originally... only to say that he was on the news saying that he would take the job if offered. As far as I know the university hasn't even contacted him.... So, I wouldn't say that Bama is hanging anything there, but I personally don't think that it's the worst idea I've heard in the last few days... He was, after all, a great and successful coach before MTV came to Hoover.

Alabama Will Not Be Happy Until Another Bear Bryant Comes Along. Ya Cant Have Ss Or Bobby Johnson. Bobby And I Were Freinds In High School. If Danny Ford Was Still Coaching, He Might Be Good For Ala

I didn't absolutely hate Shula, so I'm not tyring to dog him too much here... but it would be hard to convince me that we would have had that great of a record last year if it hadn't been for Prothro at the beginning of the year... That boy had talent. He, a half-decent quarterback, and a defense is all that we need.... lol.

Seriously though, I think that much of the 10-2 may have been thanks to Tyrone before the injury, and we were lucky to have him...

Separate thought - Tyrone... we're all praying for your speey recovery... Good luck!

Pretty sure I heard something about a teacher or some teachers at Auburn admitting that they gave Auburn players passing grades that they didn't deserve so that they could play...

What did the NCAA do to them?

Nothing - just said that they would let the University handle it internally.

I think these sweet little deals go on everywhere... recruiting, pass to play, etc... That's not to say that it was right, but the ones that were casting the stones weren't necessarily "He who is without sin".

As a Bama fan, I wish he would come to Bama but I just don't think it is going to happen.

Isn't that pretty much what Coach Fran did to our boys? Say that he was staying, then leave?

I heard that on the news, as well. He also said what he's been saying for weeks, that he wouldn't leave SC until he accomplished some things there... like an SEC championship. But the B'ham/T-town news station said that he was in town yesterday, although they didn't know why. Someone posted that they were looking at houses, but I don't know anything about that... they may or may not have been...

If we could get nick saban....the might go somewhere.

We need a butt-chewing coach, Bear Bryant was a butt-chewer behind the scenes.

Shula? Too nice, Too conservative, no imagination.
Really..... what year did you play under Bryant?

Good God..... GET A HOLD..... We are not going to hire a coach from a high school...... maybe on the staff.... but...I hope it hasn't gotten that bad.
Hey I know a guy..... that took a team in the middle of probation.... kept the integrity of the program in tact through probation. Was very competitive even with terrible scholarship cuts.... and went ten and two in his third year. Oh yeah we just fired him.... WITHOUT A DAMN REPLACEMENT. EVEN A MONKEY WON'T LET GO OF ONE BRANCH WITHOUT GRABBING ANOTHER.... MAL .... RESIGN.... PLEASE . THE LATE GREAT PAUL BRYANT WOULD WANT IT THAT WAY.

Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

Hey, just thought I would throw another name into the ring.
What about Tom Coughlin. He's gone from New York after this season,
and while he's had a tough year there, he was an excellent coach at
Boston College. He's also a disciplinarian, which this program needs.

Calm down.... I agree that Mal needs to go, and I only mentioned Rush in the first place because he was on the news and I was pretty sure eveyone in this forum knew who he was... With the reputation we're getting, high school coaches looking for a chance in college football may end up being all we can get... LOL... Of all the high school coaches in the world, though, I imagine he would be my pick to try out, if that's ever what it came down to.

About that guy you know that just got fired... I said it earlier and I really belive it... I don't think that 10-2 season was necessarily good coaching... I think it was a spectacular player named Tyrone Prothro. Did everyone in the world not see that we went downhill in the games after he got hurt last year? It got to a point where Jamie Christiansen was our hero winning the games because we couldn't get into the end zone for anything... This year wasn't much better... all year long...

Speaking of coaching and Tryone Prothro, what was he still doing in that game when he got hurt, anyway? I mean, that score ended up being like 31-3... They WEREN'T going to come back and win... I know hindsight is 20/20, but I think that was one of the worst decisions Shula ever made.

he would bring a great diff. cord. Bama guy....Brother Bill Oliver. Extra point
is ............GOOD!

Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

Hey how about pay up to bring Spurrier. Have him commit for 3 to 5 years. Then give him Mal's job. Keep the 'Ol Ball Coach and consistency in the program.

No way to Coughlin. He is over the top. Look at his record in Jacksonville. Look at how he handled the loss last week. Can't bring controversy to this team. Maybe they need someone tougher than Shula, but they need someone to be the Coach.

Remember another coach that failed in the pro's only to become the only coach BAMA's had since Bear to actually win. Stallings was a great hire, Pete Carroll at USC was also great. Tom Coughlin would do these same things for us.

Re: Next Alabama Head Coach

Again with the High School nonsense?!? My gosh, if that theory works for you, then the University should wast NO TIME in hiring Billy Bob! Hell, he was a winner in Friday Night Lights, right? Sure, they didn't win the championship that year, but they did the next year! Go Karl Childers! Alabama Sling Blades!
